Military spouses now have the right to retain residency for voting and tax purposes after President Obama signed the Military Spouses Residency Relief Act into public law Nov. 11. The president signed the 2003 Servicemembers Civil Relief Act amendment to allow a service member’s spouse to keep their home-state residency when accompanying their military husband or wife under orders. “This act, among other things, would provide that when a service member leaves his or her hom...
Once again, the Rotary Club of Fallbrook would like to thank the citizens of Fallbrook for their generosity. During the first three weeks of December, the members of The Rotary Club of Fallbrook “rang the bell” to collect donations for the Salvation Army. This is the 36th year that our members have participated in this fund raising activity and we consider this an important service to the community. This year we were worried that, because of the economy, we would not be as successful as we have been in the past. But Fal...
We need your help to save our 4th of July fireworks celebration. Your commitment now will save one of Fallbrook’s best community events that raises funds to support beautification efforts in and around Fallbrook. We have been fortunate the past five years to have had generous sponsors who have covered the costs of the spectacular fireworks and entertainment. Unfortunately they are unable to continue that commitment. We need a commitment from our community by March 15 to save this event! If this event is cancelled, two very b...
Liberty Quarry would like to support the city’s annexation request, and we look forward to reviewing the city’s report to learn more about their plans. We hope that they will consider taking advantage of the Santa Margarita Ecological Reserve’s vast potential and look to San Diego County’s Mission Trails Regional Park as a great example of a successful outdoor attraction. I would like to express my disappointment at the contributor who shared her fantasy of shooting “gangster” students and leaving their bodies by the structures they have tagged. Sharing that she imagines such vigilante justice offers her satisfaction is better suited for the confessional. Although I, too, can be angered by the illegal activity of some youth, I would like to share an anecdote from my teaching experience that may help some people understand my lesser rage. I have a student who is from the more cri...
Perhaps you have noticed the new plaques that have appeared on certain buildings in downtown Fallbrook over the past few days. The Historic Registry Site Committee of the Historical Society has started plaque placement on the twenty-one designated sites that were so dedicated last September 19. We are deeply grateful to life long resident of Fallbrook, Roger Borst of Borst Design Photo Engraving, for generously providing the plaques and their inscriptions. Because of Mr. Borst’s contribution, this project is well on its w...
During the last frantic days before Christmas, I was diagnosed with an extremely painful spinal malfunction and break. About dusk on December 21, I went to Albertsons on one errand and my wife went to CVS for the prescribed medication. I thought I could walk back to CVS from Albertsons; I had to stop in the lot and let the pain subside somewhat. It was at that time that the Samaritan stopped her car and asked if she could help. I, brave fellow that I am, allowed that I was just going to CVS, only a couple of hundred feet...
I had to read the comment twice to be sure I understood it. Jon Monday claims “…he (Dick Cheney) is personally responsible for allowing the 9/11 attack to happen…” I’ve heard some pretty loopy left wing claims about the cause of 9/11 but this is by far the most outrageous. I think we can all agree that the rancorous dialogue between left and right today begs for apology on both sides – but the Democrats first. Tom Conley...

As someone who has been going to theatrical performances, dances and concerts for nearly two decades, I rarely get wowed by what happens onstage. The farewell performance of Riverdance, however, not only wowed me, but it also pushed me out of my seat to cheer for the performers. As the dancers twirled and bounced effortlessly across the stage, I couldn’t help but lean forward in my chair to see just exactly how they managed to move the way they did. I can understand now why R...

Their efforts garnered $5,870.94 from willing Fallbrook residents who dug deep to help the effort to aid those less fortunate in these especially turbulent and precarious tim... Full story
