  • One killed in Route 78 crash in San Marcos

    One person was fatally injured in a crash on state Route 78 in San Marcos today. A vehicle struck a tow truck that was stopped along the eastbound lanes west of Nordahl Road shortly after 7 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. One lane was closed and a SigAlert was issued, but it was lifted shortly before 11 a.m., CHP officials said.     A 20-year-old man threatened to jump off a bridge over Interstate 15 today and prompted the CHP to shut down the southbound and carpool lanes for nearly five hours.
