The skies of Fallbrook may be dark this Fourth of July if enough money isn’t raised to pay for the annual fireworks event that attracts thousands to the grounds of the Grand Tradition. For the past five years, the Fallbrook Beautification Alliance (FBA) has hosted an Independence Day event filled with food, entertainment and family activities that end with a fireworks show over the lake. The July 4th event has been Fallbrook’s only fireworks show, but this year’s lack of sponsorship for the costly pyrotechnics may mean that...

As a result, the Sheriff’s department has categorized them as commercial burglaries. “These burglaries are happening at night and the thief is using pry tools to enter the...

The recent introduction of Rep. Issa’s legislation to expand protection of the Agua Tibia and Beauty Mountain wilderness areas east of Fallbrook builds on legislation signed by President Obama last March. These bills are a testament to the importance of these wild places to local communities and the region. I support Rep. Issa’s wilderness bill and urge him to consider including other unprotected wild places and rivers on public lands in San Diego County, including the Santa Margarita River, Barker Valley and the upper San... Tom Conley must have misunderstood my statement that Cheney, “…is personally responsible for allowing the 9/11 attack to happen…” I didn’t mean that in any conspiracy terms (like he knew the attack would happen that day, or that the Bush administration gave prior notice to any ethnic group working in the World Trade Center Towers, or that it was an “inside job”) – I think all those rumors and theories are false and even destructive, as they take away from the real responsibility that Cheney carries. Cheney is responsible bec...
Regarding Jerri Patchett’s appeal for funds for 4th of July fireworks - maybe economic belt tightening isn’t all bad. It forces people who manage shrinking budgets to separate goats from the sheep. It appears that sponsors from previous years finally realized it doesn’t make sense to convert thousands of dollars into 15-to-18 minutes of noise and smoke pollution while putting our fire-prone environment at risk. Dave Ashton...
Tim Allen – stand-up comedian, author and television and movie star – will take the stage at Pala casino Saturday night in his only scheduled Southern California show. Allen’s Jan. 30 performance comes about three weeks after the release of the first movie he has starred in, produced and directed. “Crazy On The Outside” – which also features Sigourney Weaver, Ray Liotta and Kelsey Grammer – may have an autobiographical flair. Allen, 56, perhaps gained his greatest exposure as the star of ABC’s Home Im... Full story
