FALLBROOK — Bob Burton’s life and accomplishments were honored on Saturday, January 27, with a pep rally attended by well over 500 people – a fitting tribute to the man who devoted 30 years (1966-1996) to cultivating school spirit at Fallbrook High School. Held appropriately at the Bob Burton Center for the Performing arts, a facility that carried his name as a symbol of the enormous respect this man garnered from the community for making all students feel valuable, the event was uplifting. Special speakers at the celeb...
Although 154 commercial burglaries occurred in the Fallbrook/Bonsall area in 2006, the Sheriff’s Department crime analysis office says that represents a decrease of 22 percent (46 incidences) compared to 2005. While the numbers were better in 2006, in terms of statistical data, it doesn’t discount the fact that several Fallbrook and Bonsall businesses have suffered significant losses from a string of burglaries this month and some have incurred notable expenses in order to better protect themselves against future crimes. Det...

At a recent meeting, the Temecula City Council agreed to begin a feasibility study on the possibility of annexing the unincorporated land on which Granite Construction has applied for permits to operate. Granite Construction began the long process of acquiring a permit in 2005. They need a permit only from the county of Riverside because...
“Scam mail is running rampant in Fallbrook,” said John McLelland, Crime Prevention Specialist for the Fallbrook Sheriff’s Substation. One such operation is sending letters to Fallbrook and Bonsall residents offering an employment opportunity to be a “secret shopper” and be paid to rate their customer service experiences with easily recognizable chain stores such as Wal-Mart, Burger King, Old Navy, Best Buy and more. A cashier’s check is enclosed for the resident (victim) with instructions to place a phone call to the company...

Is it just me, or does anyone else out there have to wear rubber gloves in order to read the Village News? The black ink that coats my fingers so heavily makes reading this paper just not worth the subscription price. (Not that Ms. Julie Reeder will allow this comment to be printed.) Ann Harter...
President Bush has committed high crimes and misdemeanors and must be impeached and removed from office. His impeachable offenses include lies and deceptions to drive the country unnecessarily into war in Iraq, deliberately violating the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) on wiretapping in the United States and facilitating the mistreatment and torture of prisoners in violation of the Geneva Conventions and the War Crimes Act. Most Americans understand the gravity of President Bush’s constitutional and immoral misco...
There are more than a handful of letters I would love to respond to from both the past and present Village News issues, but Mr. Crews, your letters have been bumped to the head of the chopping block. How dare you have the audacity to criticize Bush and the military! These men voluntarily choose to put their lives on the line every day in order to protect our great nation, even though people like you spit in their face. It’s an unfortunate circumstance, but it’s inevitable that there will always be ugly situations that occur d...
Debbie: Great article on Mr. Burton. I graduated FUHS Class of ’78 and had a lot of interaction with him. You cannot overstate what can only be described as the contribution he has made to humanity. He had a real skill of always being in touch with what was relevant to students over the years. As a result, he always commanded the attention and respect needed for his messages to sink in. He was fun and very much loved. Spirit Works is the real deal too, and not just for students. I used the original book and the “99 Nug...
Last week David Meyers said, “After invading Iraq, everyone found enormous stockpiles of WMDs…” If true, that would be very good news for the White House, as they’ve been looking for any evidence to support their pre-war claims that Iraq had WMDs. If Mr. Meyers has any proof or can cite a credible source for this information, I’m sure the President, Congress and the American people would like to see it. I assert that there is no such proof, and in fact, there has been overwhelming proof that there were no WMDs in Iraq at t...
The letter writers who are so critical of the situation in Iraq appear to have the attitude “What I believe is absolutely right and any who have a different opinion are wrong.” There is never a rational presentation of the overall strategic circumstances and any policy of how to handle the fundamentalist Islam attack on Christians and Jews. They propose that we should just “walk away.” We have historical experience to show that when we for the most part just ignored the “pinpricks” over many years the attacks increased i... Full story
I am absolutely appalled that Nathalie Taylor is being skewered by a man who obviously has a very limited vocabulary and wants to wreak vengeance for an event that sounds almost paparazzi-like. Nathalie is a very talented reporter… has an amazing rapport with the English language… and an ability to write some of the best articles about many topics that I have ever read. Obviously, Ray Carnage (did I spell that right?) has little to do other than to heap vindictive phraseology…as best he can…and to think that he could be resp...
I came here from Frankfurt, Germany, for the first semester of this school year as a foreign exchange student to experience a new country, a new school system and to get to know new people. In the beginning, I had a lot of problems understanding and speaking the new language. I had a very hard time finding friends at Fallbrook High School. I must say I was pretty frustrated the first couple of months and wanted to return to Germany very badly. But over time it got better. After a while I was able to speak English more... Full story
On Monday, January 15, the Fallbrook High School Warriors baseball program held their eighth annual fundraising golf tournament. The event was a big success. Support came from far and wide but mostly from Fallbrook and Bonsall community leaders. The tournament was sold out with a waiting list of foursomes hoping for cancellations. Vista Valley Country Club was the gracious host for the golf and fundraising dinner. Special thanks for community sponsorship, auction donations and golfers participating in this annual fundraiser....
