The death of Gregg Lypps at the Pala Mesa Resort is a tragic story. He was riding on the back of a golf cart, fell and sustained fatal injuries. The 18-year-old male who was driving the golf cart and his other passengers promptly sought the advice of legal counsel. Their lawyers apparently instructed them to assert their Fifth Amendment rights and not to speak to police investigators. As a result, the police and public are up in arms. According to the Village News, CHP officer Eric Newberry commented, “They are basically t...
For the past weeks we have enjoyed the beauty that our trees have brought to downtown Fallbrook. Fifteen years ago Save Our Forest (SOF) began seeking sites to plant trees. Now, 2,609 trees later, we are enjoying the fruit of our labor. I hope you are too. Following the palette of trees started when the Village Square was developed, the two varieties of Pear trees that have been so spectacular this year were the main stay of the project. Of course, many other varieties have been planted, but all add to the ambiance of our... Full story
Dear Jeff, I felt inclined to respond to your view on Christians not because I am a believer who “fears” or “is frustrated” by your worldview, but because you are shortchanging yourself a life of abundance, hope and peace. You see, I don’t believe in “religion,” I believe in a relationship with Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and God the Father, who loved you into existence and the reason you are still breathing today. How can something as complex as the human body be by accident? Do you really believe we are all walking b...
Mr. Evans asks the question, “And how do unbelievers benefit from their (Christians) efforts?” and continues with “A little consideration for us unbelievers would be appreciated.” If I may borrow a quote: “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists , but by Christians; not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ! For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here.” -Patrick Henry Your benefi...
Mr. Bowles is upset that the Supreme Court removed prayer from schools and “thus deny believers this right.” The right is not denied; one can pray alone anytime. Schools are about education. Better to learn about religion than pray. Suppose prayer is permitted in schools and all join in. Native Americans put on bells and dance. Muslims kneel on prayer rugs. Hindus chant mantras. Buddhists spin prayer wheels. Pentecostals speak in tongues and Catholics recite rosaries. Where’s the education? Bowles suggests the intent of th...
The U.S. government spends nearly $250,000,000 every year on libraries throughout the United States, an amount equal to what we spend in Iran and Afghanistan each day. What a waste. If we canceled the library waste, we could have an extra day of war. Fallbrook has a new $11.5 million, 20,000 square foot library. What a waste. If we had spent that properly, we could have had another 66 minutes of war. The new Congress is right: we must cut wasteful domestic spending, but not the war budget. We can do without libraries and...

“Seinfeld” character George Costanza may have had the right idea when he had a custom-built bed installed under his desk at his Yankee Stadium office.
