    Lucette Moramarco, Assistant Editor|Updated Oct 18, 2022

Having gone on a cruise around Norway last summer, one concert on the Fallbrook Music Society’s program caught my eye – “Northern Lights,” featuring the music of two Scandinavian composers played by the Redlands Symphony Orchestra on Jan. 26. For several months, I looked forward to attending the concert and extending my experience of Norway. However, as musical talent does not run in my family and music was not part of my education, this was to be the first class... Full story

  • Snider, Ashbrook share team MVP award at field hockey banquet

    Updated Feb 6, 2014

Fallbrook High School’s field hockey team continued the tradition of having more than one Most Valuable Player. The Warriors’ Dec. 9 post-season banquet at the Zion Lutheran Church meeting hall included the designation of Most Valuable Player awards for seniors Hannah Snider and Maddie Ashbrook. “There’s not one MVP,” said Fallbrook coach Kathy Waite. “Not one person makes a team, that’s for sure.” Ashbrook, who was Fallbrook High School’s only all-CIF player for 2013, missed the banquet due to that night’s all-CIF r... Full story

  • "Flouride is not a cavity fighter [Letter, Village News, 12/19/2013]

    Updated Feb 6, 2014

Incorrect complaints were written on the Village News website against letter writers who were trying to protect everyone’s bones from fluoride incorporation. These same fluoridationists do this in virtually every city that halts the infusion of industrial sodium fluoride into drinking water. Both sodium and fluoride ions are contaminants of fresh drinking water and their addition violates the U.S. Safe Drinking Water Act and Water Pollution Control Act. Please read the published review, article 439490 in the Journal of E...

  • Wealth inequality

    Updated Feb 6, 2014

Income inequality results in wealth inequality. In 1980, the average large corporation CEO’s salary was 50 times that of the average worker. Today that number is anywhere between 250 to 1,000. As companies grew, the workers have not shared in the growth. “Trickle Down” economics, a.k.a “Supply Side Economics” has proven to not work, at least for 90 percent of Americans. In the late 1800s they had an earthier name for it: “Horse and Sparrow” economics. If the horse eats enough oats, eventually there will be some oats on the r...

  • Re: "FUESD negotiations include preschool issues" [Village News, 1/30/2014]

    Updated Feb 6, 2014

I’d like to correct/clarify some aspects of the Village News’ story regarding negotiations between the Fallbrook Elementary Teachers Association (FETA) and FUESD. The story states that, according to a district newsletter, the district proposed duty free recess for teachers. That newsletter is incorrect. The district and the association have been in talks for guaranteed teacher prep time as a result of FETA’s sunshine negotiations proposal submitted to the district on April 23, 2013. This specific proposal was in regard to ar...

  • Re: "What's wrong with our educational system?" [Letter, Village News, 1/23/2014]

    Updated Feb 6, 2014

Excuse me? If you, Ms. Mathes want to express your complaints, at least present valid information. On the only test which is the same in all countries (NAEP), students in the U.S. fare very well, thank you. Realize also, that public schools in this country enroll, educate, and test every student who walks through the office door and can prove residency or have a valid transfer for that district. Do your homework! If you are not pleased with certain policies, then go to the source – state and federal legislation. The...

  • Give it a try

    Updated Feb 6, 2014

Too many businesses come and go too fast in our town because we don’t give them a chance. The Firehouse Broiler closed, but Las Brisas has re-opened it and you should give it a try. New management means new ways and new food ideas. I recommend the pork ribs, sweet potato fries, and cole slaw. They offer good food and generous portions and they are trying to make a go of it. Give them a chance. Joyce Brazel...

  • California drought to make summer months more difficult

    Updated Feb 6, 2014

Sunny skies and spring-like temperatures may have many Southern Californians in good spirits this month, but officials are warning that a lack of rain is posing a serious problem that may become even direr by the time summer rolls around. This winter marks the third year that precipitation levels have been noticeably low and data suggests that this year could be the driest California has experienced in over four decades. Governor Jerry Brown recently declared a state of emerge... Full story

    Updated Feb 6, 2014

FALLBROOK - Home ownership can be an unending series of adventures, especially for those homeowners who love good home improvement projects. Some projects are fun and improve the value of a home instantly, while others are undertaken to address a potentially serious issue. Discovering that termites are taking up residence where one lives can be disconcerting, but termites are a very common occurrence. Understanding termites and recognizing the signs of termite damage early on...
