  • Mardi Gras King Cake – a carnival on a plate!

    Updated Feb 6, 2015

As a native of California I was Mardi Gras-deprived until I turned thirty. Growing up amidst the waving palms, my only experience of Mardi Gras came vicariously through television. I didn’t taste the splash of Mardi Gras until I visited my friend, Kathy Ginn Greer, who lived near the Texas Gulf Coast. I sampled my first Mardi Gras King Cake on that trip. It was lovely and colorful and unlike anything I had ever seen. Adorned with sparkling sugar sprinkles of purple, green a... Full story

Unlike many coaches, the FUHS coach plays only a few players. Those on the bench put in a great deal of effort, sacrifice, and time but do not get any recognition. This is not the NBA. These are not paid players. The only reward they get is playing time. Thank you for your photos, Shane Gibson! The players on the bench are indeed part of...

  • President’s attitude is insulting

    Updated Feb 6, 2015

It seems our president is the last to find out anything these days. He says no one tells him anything. If he read the papers, he’d find out he lost both the House and the Senate in the last two national elections to the Republicans. That’s a big rejection of his political agenda, but it hasn’t changed his posture any. His latest lapse was a failure to send anyone to Paris to join an international coalition to protest Islamic terrorism. When he awoke he sent Kerry and James Taylor to give Paris a communal “hug” and sing them a... Full story
