  • Under the lights : Fallbrook Film Factory produces first feature, plans film festival

    Updated Feb 7, 2008

It could have been the wedding of a princess as a beautiful girl escorted by a handsome young man floated down the stairs at the Grand Tradition and slowly made her way through a bowing crowd of admirers. However, this wasn’t the wedding of a princess but a scene from Fallbrook Film Factory’s first feature, “My Necklace, Myself.” A large cast of forty-five extras contributed to the electric atmosphere of what has been dubbed “The Ballroom Scene.” “My Necklace, Myself” is no...

  • Senior Center is there to help

    Updated Feb 7, 2008

Thank you for the informative article about the Fallbrook Senior Center on Heald Lane. While most of us don’t like to think about it, there’s always the possibility that at some point, we may require these types of services to the elderly. It’s nice to know that an organization with such positive impact exists right in the heart of Fallbrook. Your donations to the thrift store have a direct impact on this often neglected segment of our community. Simple things like a visit from a friend, doing our taxes (okay, maybe not t...

  • Fallbrook Hospital provided fine treatment

    Updated Feb 7, 2008

Last month, I had a minor medical problem and had to go to Fallbrook Hospital, where I was admitted into the Emergency Department for evaluation. As I have been for many years a member of the Fallbrook Hospital Auxiliary and acquainted with many of the hospital’s employees, Dr. Johannes Neuendorf and nurses Holly and Susan gave me the best of care before I was transferred to the Medical/Surgical Department. Dr. Neuendorf, whom I hadn’t met previously, put me at ease with his friendly but professional manner, answering my que...

  • Trashy signs of Fallbrook

    Updated Feb 7, 2008

As a newer resident of Fallbrook, I am bothered by the never-ending display of trashy signs posted on the roadways and utility poles. Lost/found pets, garage/barn/yard sales, house for sale/rent/lease, firewood, massages and safes for sale, house cleaning, plans/permits and various additional services and commercial signs are posted wherever some individuals feel inclined to post them. The appearances of these signs (flyers, banners, posters, sandwich boards included) range from mid-grade school level to a professional... Full story

  • Tipping etiquette for waiters

    Updated Feb 7, 2008

The wife and I went out to dinner the other evening to celebrate her birthday at a well-known French restaurant in our area. We arrived exactly on time and were seated promptly. After a couple of appetite-stimulating cocktails, we ordered an appetizer, wine and dinner. The food was excellent, the wine sublime and the service responsive and attentive. Everything was top notch until the waitperson presented the bill (not cheap!) and I produced cash with which to pay. The whole experience was greatly diminished when the server...

  • Animals need our help

    Updated Feb 7, 2008

My name is Carl. I feel concerned about how this town is destroying the animal homes by putting in houses, concrete or roads. I was wondering if maybe you guys could say something about it in the news, so maybe those who don’t realize what’s happened to the world can get their head out of their shell and look around. Please put something in the news. Carl Pettigrew, age 9...

  • Legacy associates deserve praise

I would like to praise the efforts of four people in Legacy Endowment…The Community Foundation for their extraordinary efforts during, and after, the firestorm disaster. Tina Rainey, our executive director, and Elizabeth Crittendon, assistant executive director, have spent countless hours working on phone calls, spreadsheets of affected families, making interview appointments and distributing funds (raised by our generous community) to the fire victims. They have had to deal with a totally unexpected range of activities a...

  • Liberty Quarry a great concern

    Updated Feb 7, 2008

“I am mad as hell and I can’t take it anymore!” This familiar phrase sums up the feelings most residents have regarding the proposed rock quarry project that will encroach on our daily lives if allowed to come in. The effects this business will create can be catastrophic! I am making reference to the proposed Granite Construction rock quarry called “Liberty.” That name does not imply “liberty” as we know it (state of being free, immunity, etc.) It means taking the “liberty” to put the rock quarry in an area that is arguably... Full story

  • Speaker imparted valuable information to citizens

    Updated Feb 7, 2008

The attendees of the Fallbrook Citizens’ Crime Prevention meeting on January 29 at Zion Lutheran Church seemed to experience a special bond with Mr. Phillip Hubbs, executive director and founder of Proactive Network Against Substance Abuse (PRONASA). His ability to connect and captivate the audience, while promoting his message on drug abuse by teens, was astonishing. In six years of crime prevention meetings, I have never witnessed such skill and bonding with the audience by a speaker. There was a definite kinship of s... Full story

  • County may provide background check assistance for volunteer firefighters

    Updated Feb 7, 2008

The revelation that a convicted arsonist had been a member of a volunteer fire department in San Diego County may result in subsequent county action to make background checks for volunteer firefighters available to the volunteer departments. County Supervisor Dianne Jacob, who also chairs the county’s Task Force on Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services, offered the idea during the task force’s January 25 meeting. “It’s just something to be thinking about,” Jacob said. “It’s not intended to add another burden.” Sinc...
