  • Water in Southern California

    Updated Feb 10, 2011

The cost and availability of fresh water is an ongoing problem with few answers. We have the Pacific full of salt water but little effort to source it for fresh even though we have the technology. An official has said that Valley Center and other agricultural areas will face a “long-term train wreck” from the deteriorating supply. Some are already doomed to quit farming right here in Fallbrook. We all know the supply was cut dramatically to save the tiny fish in the delta. Local farmers originally depended on rainfall and... Full story

  • Scam comes through our neighborhood, again

    Updated Feb 10, 2011

Once again our street, Sky Vista Way, was subjected to a neighborhood scam. A white male said he was selling car wax or a house cleaning product. When asked where his car was, he stated he was dropped off by the driver of a van. He had one brochure but would not let any of the homeowners keep it. One comment that seems to be a consistent sales tactic in these is that the person says a neighborhood resident had bought the product or that he knew so and so and that “there was money to be had in Fallbrook.” This seems to be a y...

  • Re: "The cost of freedom" [Letter, Village News, 2/3/2011]

    Updated Feb 10, 2011

Hey Joe Howard [Crews], I read your article with great cynicism. Unfortunately you have been out in the weeds too long. So, if I read you right, you want to throw down the weapons and throw our hands up in peace? You are right on one point; yes, the people of Afghanistan and Iraq do need to be free. Do you see any other country standing in line to assist them? You must be a tree hugger. I have a suggestion, why don’t you donate some of your excess income to the Fallbrook Library fund? Jim Lowery Vista... Full story

  • Children can cause fires

    Updated Feb 10, 2011

SAN DIEGO COUNTY – Somewhere a child is about to learn the pain a match or lighter can cause. Cal Fire needs everyone’s help to prevent child-caused fires. Parents of young children need to take the time to teach them that matches and lighters are tools, not toys. Unlike cigarettes, matches do not come with a warning. People should always keep matches and lighters out of the reach of small children. Remember a match lasts only a few seconds, but the scars can last a lifetime. Be fire safe, not sorry!...
