After being held on Saturdays for many years, Rainbow Valley Grange’s annual Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner will be on Sunday, March 16, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Grange Hall, 2160 Rainbow Valley Boulevard. The dinner will include potatoes and carrots, salad, roll, dessert and a drink, all for $8 for adults and $4 for children 10 and under. Residents are invited to come to CROP Walk Sunday, March 9, and show that they care, listen to music and enjoy food after the walk. Registration starts at 1 p.m. and the walk begins at 1:30 at the Fallbrook Food Pantry, 1042 South Mission Road. Those who raise $50 will receive a t-shirt. Over the last 17 years, the CROP Walk has raised over a half-million dollars to fight hunger, poverty and disease. This is in response to the waiters and waitresses who have sent Letters to the Editor regarding tips left after dinner. I am in full agreement that a tip left for good service is the right thing to do. I also agree that sometimes the service is not so great; however, if the [waitperson’s] attitude shows concern for our enjoyment, the tip should show our thank you. Now comes the other side. I am a 12-year-old girl who lives in Fallbrook and I noticed an article on the front page of the Village News, dated 2/28, about the Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary being closed if they do not meet a list of demands. I do not agree with this decision. The Animal Sanctuary is the only shelter in Fallbrook and there are 91 animals that will be left without a home if you shut the Sanctuary down. If the manager of the new Fresh & Easy store was quoted correctly, I’d say either he or his boss should first take another look at Fallbrook demographics and who are likely to become their customers. I heard a member of San Diego’s Minutemen inform a group of patriots who were demonstrating at the front gate of Camp Pendleton that something unusual occurred in Fallbrook at or near Red Mountain during the recent fires. He said that 6,000 gallon tanks of chlorine disappeared and implied that FPUD did not know exactly what happened to them.
