FALLBROOK – Students in Iowa Street School’s Core Program collected shoes for their “Soles for Souls” program inspired by the needs of the people in Haiti after the devastating earthquake. The San Diego County Board of Supervisors approved a Major Use Permit modification and Specific Plan Amendment which will allow for the renovation and expansion of the clubhouse at the Vista Valley Country Club. FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook Village Rotary awarded a $1,000 grant last month to Keep Fallbrook Clean and Green (KFCG) for the continuing operation of its household battery recycling program. The donation will enable KFCG to recycle almost one ton of batteries. That translates into one less ton of materials in local landfills and, even more importantly, one less ton of hazardous chemicals that can seep into the soil and groundwater supplies. Fallbrook High School’s boys golf team opened its season March 3, losing that day’s match to Dana Hills but defeating Vista in a March 4 match. The Warriors lost to Dana Hills by a 204-211 score on the Monarch Beach at the Links course while taking a 200-225 victory over Vista at the San Luis Rey Downs course. Camp Pendleton’s Fire Chief William Frankel said good-bye to the base during a small ceremony at Fire Station One, on March 1, after more than 31 years of service. Frankel has had an extensive firefighting career that started in 1976 as a U.S. Forest Service Firefighter in Cleveland National Forest, Calif.
