For the second time in 16 months, the Fallbrook Union Elementary School District will refinance its bond debt. The San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 Feb. 28 to approve the refinancing of up to $10 million of the school district’s bond obligation. Charles Mathews was selected as the new chair of the Pala-Pauma Sponsor Group. Mathews had taken over as interim chair in November after Tom McAndrews moved to Riverside to attend law school and resigned from the sponsor group. The Fallbrook varsity boys’ basketball team made several strides throughout this past season to become recognized as a respectable program. With a team that featured eight seniors, the Warriors managed to reach the quarterfinals of the CIF Division I Playoffs, where Torrey Pines, the eventual champions, abruptly ended Fallbrook’s postseason run. FALLBROOK - Local residents Lillian Davis and Winnie Lindsay, both 91 years young, still play 18 holes of golf every Tuesday at Fallbrook Golf Club. Avid golfers for years, Davis joined the club in 1971 and Lindsay in 1976. Both are widows and good friends who seem to let nothing get in their way. The 26th annual Fallbrook Winter Junior Satellite Tournament held at the Fallbrook Tennis Club attracted 143 players. “It’s growing,” said tournament organizer Dorothy Roth. Peggy Jean Johnson, 81, passed away on March 8, 2012 in San Diego, Calif. She was born Aug. 7, 1930 in Inglewood, Calif.
