  • Menifee man pleads not guilty to beating dog to death

    RIVERSIDE - A Menifee man accused of fatally beating a neighbor's Chihuahua with a golf club pleaded not guilty today to a felony animal cruelty charge. Larry Edward Jaurequi, 58, could face four years behind bars if convicted in the Jan. 26 attack. Along with the animal abuse charge, he faces a sentence-enhancing allegation of using a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.     LONG BEACH - A man whose nude body was found on Nov. 10, 1974 in a large condominium complex in Long Beach was identified as Marine from Des Moines, Iowa, detectives said today. The body of Oral Stuart Jr. was found in the carport area of the complex near Spring Street and the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway, but the county coroner's office was unable to identify the man or determine the cause of death.     SAN DIEGO - The tail-end of the last storm of the winter season moved eastward across San Diego County early today, dropping more rainfall and snow in the region.     BLYTHE - A narcotics smuggling checkpoint set up on the westbound Interstate 10 Freeway near the Arizona border netted three alleged drug smugglers, according to authorities.
