The county’s Planning Commission voted 6-1 March 9 to recommend approval of a Specific Plan Amendment, rezone, tentative map, and Major Use Permit for the Pala Mesa Highlands project. The recommended plan amendment would allow for 124 single-family residential lots, at least half of which would be single-story. The Planning Commissio...
On March 15, 30 Fallbrook Union Elementary School District teachers received warnings of reassignment or layoff. For counselor Dee Jarvis, who works four days a week at Fallbrook Street School and one day at La Paloma, the Reduction In Force (RIF) warnings are “business as usual.” Jarvis has felt the unease of this notification for the past 11 years. It’s the way the district must do its job. Even though most of the RIF warnings will be rescinded by late May, each time it happens teachers and their families face a phase... Full story

David and Annette Puchta announced plans to withdraw their application for an Administrative Permit to build a pair of horse barns on their Bonsall property, although the response of other horse owners to the substantive issues raised during hearings at the county’s Planning Commission has created a second battle which will likely continue after the Puchtas have selected an alternative to their Administrative Permit. The Puchtas proposed an 11,520 square foot barn which would include 40 stalls – 28 of which would be used for...

Since we have learned that the bones of Jesus have been found along with his wife and son, we are in need of a new religion. I guess I will start my own. If he is still buried, he could not have ascended. If he did not ascend, he will not be coming back. So I may as well abandon Christianity and look for something else. Thanks to the brilliant Hollywood producers of imaginary content, I am now free of the burdens of Christianity and the moral restrictions it demands. Think of the new possibilities. Without Jesus, how can we... Full story
In response to all who complain about the noise coming from Camp Pendleton, every time we hear the helicopters we run outside, salute them (even though we realize they cannot see us) and say to each other, “The sound of freedom – isn’t it beautiful!” MaryAnne T. Jones...
Idiot status to the chronic complaints regarding living in military towns. Fact #1: upon escrow, disclosure documents state (in black ink) noise, vibration, air craft and the like and the buyer agrees to accept this fact and signs it off (accepting). Not only did you buy the house near a military base, you bought all that goes with it; you chose to ignore the warnings. Live with it or move. Out-of-town implants are truly stupid. Melissa D. Corcoran...
This comment is for those who complain about the loud noises coming from Camp Pendleton. Go read your real estate contract. I’m fairly certain there is a notice there that indicates you are buying property near a military base (which was established in the 1940s!) and that you will hear noise from military training. If you don’t like the noise, move away! This also goes for those who complain about the airport noise; you knew it was there before you bought, so stop complaining about it. Jeff Backus... Full story
That does it. We are paying property tax for roads, schools and protection. Our Sheriff’s detail for North County and especially the formerly low-crime areas of Bonsall and Fallbrook is dangerously understaffed. We need more deputies and we need them now. Bonsall and Fallbrook residents are older and wealthier and soft targets for criminals. We need a strong law enforcement presence. It is time to contact Supervisor Horn and demand support for our Sheriff! Victor L. Kovner, MD, FACP Bonsall... Full story
The Fallbrook Rugby Clubs would like to thank Pedro’s Tacos for their generous donation. We were able to feed all four teams and families after last Sunday’s match against the Fullerton Lions. The under 14 team, Fallbrook Braves, won 36-20 to take sole possession of first place. The under 16 team, Fallbrook Warriors, were down 17-5 and battled back before falling 23-20 in a very hard-fought match. It was their first loss of the season. Thanks, again, to Pedro’s Tacos and to all of the parents who helped make Sunday’s matches... Full story
