By the time Kenny Adams finished his high school golf career, he was the CIF individual boys champion. Now Adams, who had not played golf before entering Fallbrook High School, faces the task of working his way up in college golf. Adams now plays golf for Cal State San Marcos. “It’s a much bigger step up from high school,” he said. Varsity Last Thursday, the Fallbrook High varsity mens volleyball team went four games with the Escondido Cougars. In game one, the Warriors stole the first few points before the lead was taken. It wasn’t until the middle of the game when the Warriors tied it up 15-15. The Cougars won game one with a final score of Warriors 21, Cougars 25. The Warriors fell behind in the next game. Host Cal State University San Marcos and the UCLA junior varsity team tied for first place at the Cougar Classic Men’s Golf Invitational held February 28 and March 1 at the San Luis Rey Downs Country Club in Bonsall. Last Tuesday, El Capitan came to Fallbrook to play in the Hilltop Tournament. The El Capitan Cowboys were the first up to bat. The Warriors’ pitcher for this game was Aaron Larsen. In the first inning, there was one out and the second Cowboys hitter, Louie Russo, hit a solo homerun to score one for the Cowboys. The next hitter drove a base hit into right field. FALLBROOK — Cameron Huber of Boy Scout Troop 737 recently completed his Eagle Scout project. The project was to design, build, paint, and mount five display boxes for the front of the building of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. The VFW has been the charter organization for troop 737 for 60 years. These boxes now display the emblems of the five branches of the military. A report released last week by the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) details that the percentage of juveniles who have tested positive for any drug, marijuana and methamphetamine have increased 10 percent over the past four years in this region. The report released the statistics for 2003 in comparison to years past. Fifty-six percent of the youth interviewed in 2003 tested positive for some type of drug, compared to 52 percent in 2002, 51 percent in 2001 and 46 percent in 2000. Russ Hatfield’s retirement from the Rainbow Municipal Water District board of directors lasted slightly more than two years. Hatfield, who previously served from 1998 to 2002, was sworn in as a board member March 11. He replaces Tom Cole, who was recalled in the corresponding March 8 election. Wendall & Earline Dean of Fallbrook will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary April 5. They were married in Lynwood, CA, on April 5, 1945. This was during WWII and gasoline was rationed. They well remember walking to work for several weeks to save gasoline-rationing coupons in order for a short honeymoon to Lake Elsinore.
