The Fallbrook Rugby Club is holding a dinner fundraiser from 4:30 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30 at Firehouse Broiler, 1019 South Main Ave. When diners present the teams’ flyer before ordering their dinner, 20 percent of the proceeds will go to the rugby teams who will be going to the California State Cup and National Championships. Ivy High School’s soccer team has struggled in its early games against other continuation high schools in its league, but new Ivy coach Alex Rodriguez isn’t concerned about the direction his team is heading. “We’ve really shown a lot of improvement,” Rodriguez said. “I’m really impressed with the kids.” Ivy is one of eight continuation or alternative high schools in the league. Longtime Fallbrook resident and businessman, Ronald “Ron” Curtis Neeley passed away Friday, March 19, 2010, from injuries resulting from a traffic accident. Ron Neeley was born Dec. 3, 1957 in North Carolina, and moved with his family to Fallbrook in 1969 when his father John, a Marine, was transferred to Camp Pendleton. Valentine Mae (Teeny) Davis passed away peacefully March 9, 2010 at the age of 88, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. She was born Valentine Soderstrom on February 14, 1922 in Madison, Wisconsin, the second of six children born to Arthur and Nellie Soderstrom. She grew up in Madison and attended the University of Wisconsin. CAMP PENDLETON - The United States Marine Corps mourns the loss of Sergeant Nicholas J. Smith who was found unresponsive at his residence in Oceanside at noon on March 14. Smith was pronounced dead one hour later by the San Diego Medical Examiner. The incident is currently under investigation. Smith, a 25-year-old warehouse clerk from Chicago, Ill., was assigned to Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton.
