The d... Full story

  • RE: 'True cost of annexation' (Opinion, 3/6/08)

    Updated Apr 3, 2008

Public relations personnel are vigilantly aggrandizing the wonderful asset this industrial complex will be to our communities, as suggested in the letter in the Village News on March 6 by Gary W. Johnson. An example of their distorted statements is, “Liberty Quarry will provide a significant benefit to the region through traffic reduction.” It has been stated by the quarry personnel themselves that there will be 1,600 trucks entering and leaving the quarry each working day, using Rainbow entrances and exits off of and onto In...

  • There are alternatives to quarries in our area

    Updated Apr 3, 2008

We don’t need a quarry and 1,800 more gravel truck trips on I-15. There is another option. That option is Polaris Minerals, a young company exclusively focused on two large high-quality aggregate quarries located on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Their principal target is the Western seaboard of North America. They ship aggregate by barge – 1,000 miles by barge is equal to that of 25 miles by land. Transportation costs by truck increase the cost of aggregate. Orca Quarry ships sand and gravel. Eagle Rock quarry i...

  • Bonsall School District keeps parents in the dark

    Updated Apr 3, 2008

The Bonsall school board and superintendents were not pleased to see around 200 parents attend the March 18 board meeting. Parents were shocked to find out that home-to-school transportation was being eliminated and they showed up in droves. Communication from the district has been very limited and only provided in English, leaving Latino parents out of any communication link. Many parents wanted to speak but were cut short and not given the opportunity. Eliminating transportation creates a hardship on hardworking parents... Full story

  • Attack on marriage more like attack on humanity

    Updated Apr 3, 2008

Contrary to what Mr. Corcoran believes, same-sex attraction has been prominent throughout time. What has happened is that society has chosen to omit that fact from our history books. Historical greats such as Plato, Socrates and Alexander the Great were all homosexuals. Redefining and denying the truth is a lot easier to swallow than acknowledging reality. Interestingly enough, the rights we are denying homosexuals are hauntingly familiar to the oppression society has inflicted on other minority groups. Denying homosexuals...

  • Granite Construction vs. wildlife corridor

    Updated Apr 3, 2008

Granite Construction’s proposed Liberty Quarry mine would affect both human health and wildlife. The area has been identified by biologists as one of only 15 such wildland corridors in all of Southern California that “if even one fails, the biological integrity of the entire region would be compromised.” The mining company wants to blast a 1,000-foot-deep, one-mile-long pit mine, dynamiting every day and adding 1,600 diesel truck trips to the Rainbow Valley Road off/on ramps every day for the next 75 years. Conservation agenc...

  • Facts parents and teens should know

    Updated Apr 3, 2008

Pam Stenzel is a world renowned speaker with decades of experience counseling teens paying the price of sexual “freedom” who frequently lament, “No one told me!” That post-consequences distress motivates Pam’s efforts to educate teens with the facts needed for informed decisions. Some of the facts: • There are two types of STDs: bacterial and viral. Bacterial ones can be cured, if the patient has symptoms and seeks help. Viral infections last a lifetime and you will give them to your future spouse. • Women are adversely aff... Full story

  • Shame on us!

    Updated Apr 3, 2008

An excellent letter by Mike Thielk of Fallbrook (March 6, 2008) spelled out in great clarity the little known fact that the vast US population is unknowingly serving as surrogates to the State of Israel! We all felt great sorrow for the European Jews for their treatment by Nazi Germany in the ’30s and ’40s. So much so that the goodhearted US took the lead in pushing through the UN the measures leading to the establishment of a Jewish homeland in the area populated by Palestinians, Jews and a few other minorities. One can que... Full story
