INDIO - A pair of small but shallow earthquakes struck the Coachella Valley today, but there were no reports of damage or injuries. LAKE ELSINORE - A U.S. Marine from Lake Elsinore was killed in combat in Afghanistan, Pentagon officials said today. Cpl. Michael J. Palacio, 23, died Thursday in Helmand province. The circumstances of his death were not disclosed. Palacio was assigned to the 3rd Marine Division, Marine Expeditionary Force, based in Okinawa, Japan. A second fire has occurred in the Fallbrook area within three weeks due to residents trying to eradicate bees from their property. "We have another case where a resident lit citronella candles and left them burning in an attempt to eradicate bees," said John Buchanan, public information officer for North County Fire.
