She and two other San Diego State University alumni came up with a plan to create a “Science Learning Center” on the newly annexed land. “This will be a fantastic opportunity for children to see modern scientific research being done...

The Fallbrook 4-H Sheep Group is on the road to the San Diego County Fair. The “Ewe Bid, Ewe Buy” auction held March 24 was a huge success. We would like to publicly thank all of the local businesses who helped us by donating gift baskets and gift certificates for our live and silent auctions. The highlight of the auction was the sale of a beautiful handmade quilt by Arlene Dillard. The bidding was neck and neck between Lynn Orcutt and Mrs. Blaisie, with Mrs. Blaisie taking it home. The money earned from this fundraising auc...
I am writing in regard to your article concerning the recent county hearing on Pala Mesa Highlands [“Opinions vary on Pala Mesa highlands project,” Village News, 3/22/07]. The article was comprehensive and informative. Area residents on both sides of the issue presented their position regarding the proposed development. I was saddened to see that one gentleman, a Mr. Berkstresser, was unable to make his point without speaking of the Lake Rancho Viejo neighborhood in disparaging terms. He said that Lake Rancho Viejo is “no...
This is a response to “Okay, you nasty little stone-throwers…” [Village News, Opinion, 3/29/07]. I live right under the path of every helicopter that flies over Fallbrook. I too go out and wave to the Marines. I silently thank them for saving my life and the lives of my children and grandchildren. I have an adopted grandson (by friendship) serving in Iraq at this moment. He got his excellent training at Camp Pendleton and absolutely loves the Marine Corps. You say you are retired. Just maybe you should get in touch with...

SGI is an American Buddhist movement that promotes peace and individual happiness based on the philosophy and practice of the Nichiren school of Mahayana Buddhism tracing its roots to the teachings of the historical Buddha Shakyamuni. The core philosophy is expressed in the concept of human revolution, a process of inner transformation that centers on the idea that the...
Bonsall residents with horses have been misled and misinformed with regards to the potential impact upon them of the county staff’s recommendation to the Planning Commission to deny the Puchta Horse Barns proposal as submitted and the subsequent withdrawal by the Puchtas of their proposal to construct 17,000-plus square feet of barns for 62 horses on just five acres of land. As one of the attorneys for the neighbors who have consistently opposed the project, I was present when the director of the Department of Planning and L...
So, Robert F. Green [Village News, Opinion, 3/29/07] blames America’s war on terrorism with its support of Israel? This is beyond absurd. Billions of our hard-earned tax dollars have been flushed down the rat hole that is Palestine and worse, we kowtowed for years to a murdering thug named Arafat. Seen any improvement? The Palestinian people slaughter each other by the thousands, yet these same people scream bloody murder when Israel responds to an attack and kills even one Palestinian. Do Mr. Green and his ilk purposely i...
Thirty-six townships in Vermont have passed resolutions calling for the impeachment of George W. Bush. (For the impeachment resolution, visit www.vermontguardian.com/local/032007/Town MeetingImpeach.shtml.) Rocky Anderson, mayor of Salt Lake City (Utah is the most Republican state in the country), has also called for impeachment (found at www.sltrib.com/news/ci_5338136). There is good reason for this. Incompetence breeds incompetence. This president has demonstrated that he understands and supports the Peter Principle by...
A great many dedicated Fallbrook residents came together on Sunday, March 25, to support our annual CROP Walk. In addition to the many walkers and sponsors who donated the much-needed funds for the event, people gave generously of their time and energy. I want to especially thank Sam Logan of Major Market for his donation of 10 cases of bottled water; McDonald’s, who contributed drinks and cups; and Sandy Dorsey, Steve and Ellen LeFevre, who handed out drinks to the thirsty walkers at the turn-around point on the walk. Jim D...
The area around San Jose is famously known as Silicon Valley. The Fallbrook-Temecula area could become Silicosis Valley if Granite Construction is allowed to construct its proposed industrial complex bordering Fallbrook. This will be much more than a gigantic open-pit mine: as the county of Riverside’s notice, dated July 20, 2005, indicates, Granite Construction, Inc. plans to build a huge industrial complex on this 311-acre site. “Associated with the quarry will be an aggregate-processing facility consisting of a series of c...
“It’s a time for change,” says Dave Evans, nodding at a group of young men and women hunkered down over laptops, others feverishly peering at galleys and still others scrawling dates and information on calendars and lists that dominate a wall of white boards. Then he smiles. “And this group of 25 rookies will do it,” he says, tapping his chest. “And me, I’m a rookie too.” This group of “rookies” is responsible for the first all-color Fallbrook Union High School Moccasin yearbook in the school’s history. To further add to its... Full story
