The county’s Planning Commission withheld its approval of a Major Use Permit for the wireless facility during a March 7 hearing, opting to continue the hearing to May 2 so that a design acceptable to the Bonsall Sponsor Group can replace the false tree stipulated in the current application. “It sounds like the planning group’s done...

  • Spiritual deserts

    Updated Apr 10, 2008

Our spiritual walk of faith, just like any great journey, can be fraught with challenges. One that can be particularly disheartening is when we encounter dry spells, commonly called “the dark night of the soul.” Not fun. Prayer times, once filled with meaning, feel like being lost in a moonless forest. Gravy-rich Scripture reading becomes dry like chewing on sandpaper. Praise music or hymns that caused your soul to rejoice only plummets your heart into despair. Your lush walk of faith feels like wandering in the Mojave withou...

    Updated Apr 10, 2008

As the Higgins boat approached the Normandy shore, the men inside all knew full well what they had signed up for. They all knew the great sacrifice that might have to be paid. As the rear doors opened, the sound of machine guns was all that could be heard. Then explosions. Then the sound of honorable men gasping for their last breath. Men scrambled to make it off the boats, onto the beach and up the cliffs. Many men did not make it. One that did was Captain Miller. After surviving the Normandy invasion and pressing on into Fr... Full story
