FALLBROOK — The Fallbrook Family Support League held their annual mahjong tournament on Friday, March 30, at Fallbrook Public Utility District. The event was a great success with a total of 88 players at 22 tables. The funds from this tournament help support needed counseling services for local schoolchildren, fire victims and military families on a pay-as-you-are-able or free basis. Members of the North San Diego County Association of Realtors (NSDCAR) will be swinging their golf clubs on April 16 to raise money for the North County Boys & Girls Club and the Fallbrook Senior Center. The golf tournament will be held at the Golf Club of California on Flower Lane in Fallbrook. Kerry Popko won the first Pole Bending performance at the California High School Rodeo Association’s Challenge of the Champions March 23-25 in Plymouth and finished third in the average. On March 27, the second of four matches for the Fallbrook Winery Cup was held at San Luis Rey Resort. This time, Pala Mesa Resort’s men’s team won the match, led by individual leader Bob Selsor. Fallbrook High School’s boys lacrosse team received a visit from the lacrosse team of Monarch High School in Littleton, Colorado. On April 3 the Fallbrook Women Golfers participated in a tournament supporting the breast cancer awareness campaign Rally for the Cure organized by Golf for Women magazine. They have often participated, with this year being the most successful. In the early hours of Sunday, March 25, the seam broke on an old steel-lined water pipe under Palomino Road behind the Grand Tradition, undermining the sewage line running parallel to it. As a result 141,859 gallons of raw sewage mixed with 500,000 gallons of potable water spilled into a dry creek bed that flowed into the two ponds at the north boundary of Los Jilgueros Preserve.
