    A man suspected of stabbing two women in front of their children was later shot and critically wounded during a struggle with a sheriff's deputy, a sheriff's spokesman said today.     A 21-year-old Escondido woman was killed early today in a single-vehicle crash on state Route 78 in San Marcos. Her name has not been released. She was driving her 1997 Acura CL west on 78 near Linda Vista Drive at about 2:20 a.m., when she lost control while changing lanes and veered onto the right shoulder, CHP Officer Jim Bettencourt said.   • Carlsbad: Police arrest 49-year-old man in connection with homicide death of woman

    A woman was found dead in her place of employment's parking lot in Carlsbad and a 49-year-old man was jailed today in connection with her death. Someone called police shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday to check on a woman who had been working at a business in the 5700 block of Van Allen Way near Faraday Avenue, according to the Carlsbad Police Department.
