Recently, I completed my Eagle Project at REINS, and I want to thank the people, the organizations and companies that helped me by donating time, money, materials, supplies, plants, flowers and food. For my project, I landscaped the area outside one of the buildings at REINS and built a retaining wall. I completed my project with the help of many of my fellow boy scouts and their parents. I thank you members and parents of... Full story
Jerry Weiss, “a man for all seasons,” recently left Fallbrook and his Shangri-la to tend other gardens in the great universe. Although he has given an earthly good-bye and gone somewhere beyond to sow the seeds of caring, generosity and stewardship, the footprint that he left is what community legacies are made of. Not only did he share his well of knowledge with many through education but also through his actions by sharing his commitment to organically grown food. Those of us who knew him were truly fortunate to have bee...

In response to Archie McPhee’s great letter, “Are we returning to slavery through Obamacare?” – I totally agree with Mr. McPhee. It is amazing that Congress passed legislation on health care contrary to the will of the people. Mr. McPhee’s point of “whole life system” is scary, to say the least. The way I read the new law, is there will be a government panel or “Czar” of health care to ensure all will get a fair “trial” before you get rejected for a knee, hip, or other replacement surgery. You will no longer have a ch... Full story
On March 31, Rick Sanchez, CNN, interviewed Catholic League President William Donohue. Donohue’s attributing child molestation to homosexuals is outrageous and flat wrong. Donohue: “What they [John Jay researchers] found at that time … was that 81 percent of all the victims have been male and that 75 percent … three out of every four, of these victims are post-pubescent, meaning that it’s homosexuality driven. …. It’s been a homosexual crisis all along.” CNN transcript. Fact: “The full report by researchers at the John Jay C...
The current economic climate has been difficult on many within our small community. Despite these challenging times, we can find a way to brighten our wonderful town. One of these ways is by supporting those in our community affected by cancer. Each year our town has a Fallbrook Relay for Life 24-hour event which raises money for our local residents fighting this life threatening disease. More than 70% of the donations go to programs locally. Over the last four years I have participated, I have seen the wonderful community...
There was a letter in the Village News last week from a fellow who is probably a contemporary of mine, speaking in scary terms of the new healthcare legislation. It spoke about how good the inmates of our jails have it in relation to the same healthcare available to law abiding citizens – like us. I’d be the first to admit that we, as a society, mollycoddle jail inmates, but that’s a separate issue. He made it sound as if, under the new legislation, most of his health benefits will be taken away, or increased in pri... Full story

FALLBROOK – The Bello Lei Salon is proud to present Ebony & Ivory, a black and white art show displayed in the four rooms of the salon through May 31. Despite the seduction color offers in a work of art, a black and white palette forces the viewer to focus closely on the artist’s visual selection, allowing prominence of tone, form, space, contrast and mood of the artwork. “In some unexamined but authentic sense, the tones of black and white are the tones of truth and...
