  • Understanding the Marines' role in politics

    Updated Apr 29, 2010

The Marine Corps’ motto is Semper Fidelis (Always Faithful), and Marines understand that unwavering loyalty, up and down the chain of command, is crucial for keeping good order and discipline. As tax payers and functioning members of society, Marines are always encouraged to fully exercise their democratic rights. However, it is imp...

  • RE: 'Caltrans delays SR76 report' [Letter, Village News, 4-8-10]

    Updated Apr 29, 2010

I lived in Fallbrook for 18 years and during that time my spouse did the Bonsall shuffle to San Marcos and home daily. What a traffic nightmare. Caltrans had scheduled the extensions between Home Depot and Bonsall for a number of years. During that time all of you NIMBY’s in Bonsall/Fallbrook complained the northern route would not work, then the southern route would not work. Consequently, Caltrans halted the study due the Not In My Back Yard (NIMBY) loud mouths going off at every drop of the hat. Enough already! Stop the w...

  • SR76 'Southern Route Alternative' is the best one

    Updated Apr 29, 2010

Why is there so much “push back” from Caltrans and the County to re-routing Hwy 76 to a more southern route, which would leave the present 76 as a needed local business alternate? The new “Southern Route Alternative” is obviously better, as it allows safer access to both homes and local businesses ands gives Fallbrook an additional emergency evacuation route. In comparison, the “Northern Route Alternative”, which is favored by county politicians, expands Hwy 76’s current footprint. If built, it would result in reduced emergen... Full story

  • Ocean Waves Salon first in customer service

    Updated Apr 29, 2010

I am writing this letter to acknowledge the excellence in customer service given at Ocean Waves Salon. On a very important day in my daughter’s life, we experienced a “hair-do tragedy” and were limited on time to have it corrected. We knew the chances to find a salon at the last minute was next to impossible, but we decided to give it a try. Upon entering Ocean Waves Salon, we were greeted with smiles and concern regarding our situation. Without any hesitation, Dominique, the receptionist, took it upon herself to make adjustm...

  • Concerned about vendor at Avocado Festival

    Updated Apr 29, 2010

What a thrill to once again see the great turnout for our little Fallbrook’s Avocado Festival. We had out-of-town friends in tow - enjoyed the food, familiar faces, Fallbrook’s native habitat, rural atmosphere and quaint downtown. We are fortunate to have a contingent of progressive hardworking leaders. Visionaries have managed to help put aside and save an unprecedented amount of open space, not just for recreation but to protect some of what’s left of our native species. With this in mind, it’s with a heavy heart that I... Full story

  • Happy days are here again

    Updated Apr 29, 2010

From all drug addicts and alcoholics (free doctors, free medicine, free hospital beds): thank you Obama and our Democratic congressmen. That means more booze and drugs for all of us. My father thanks you, my welfare checks thank you from the bottom of my empty glass. Is it possible that the multimillions of drug addicts and alcoholics could bankrupt Obama healthcare? Let’s not forget our 20-million illegals; free medical from Obama and our Democratic Congress that surely will bankrupt America. Folks: this medical plan is s...

  • Note to Fallbrook Postmaster

    Updated Apr 29, 2010

Yep, it’s me again. Going on four years now I keep receiving other people’s mail. On April 22, I received someone else’s very important bill or check that they won’t get on time, if at all. I’ve spoken to you personally over five times about this. I’ve spoken to your “assistants” numerous times as well. I’ve written letters. I’ve contacted Consumer Affairs. If the Fallbrook Post Office took pride in their service and treated it like a business this would have been solved years ago. But since we can no longer rely on the Post... Full story

  • A thank you to rescue workers

    Updated Apr 29, 2010

On March 21 around 8 p.m., I needed some medical attention. I was lying on the floor semi-conscious due to an allergic reaction to a medicine I had taken. I wish to heartily thank the paramedics who came to my aid. I cannot express my gratitude enough for their professionalism and their gentle care. I hope they read this and know how thankful I am. Also, I wish to thank the “Rescue Alert” company who responded to my call immediately. I was wearing my “Rescue Alert” button which I pressed to let them know I needed help. T... Full story
