VISTA - A preliminary hearing was postponed today to May 20 for a Riverside County man accused of raping a woman he had just met in Fallbrook. Fidel Perez Bernal, 28, is charged with two counts each of rape of an intoxicated person and rape of an unconscious person. He was arrested at his home in the 31000 black of Silex Court in Winchester at about 7:30 a.m. on January 23, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. RIVERSIDE -- The Riverside County Board of Supervisors today formally appointed a longtime county attorney to serve as the county's public defender. Steve Harmon, 65, will begin his duties in the next few weeks. He was hired by county CEO Jay Orr in March, and the appointment was unanimously accepted today by the board, which also signed off on a $219,217 annual salary for the veteran defense lawyer.
