The woman was located by Cathedral City police in that city and Palm Springs investigators were en route to another location to check on the child, Palm Springs police Officer Rhonda Long said. ''From the call, it says the child is OK, but we won't know until we see him and touch him,'' she said. Johnny Jacob Gonzalez was taken around 11:30 a.m. from 2611 Linden Way, authorities said, prompt...

When I moved here eight years ago, I did so because Fallbrook looked like a nice, quaint, beautiful town to live in. I realize that with time, all things come to an end, and this has come true. Why has Fallbrook become a “swap meet” looking place? First, there is the hideous Avocado Festival that looks like nothing more than a large container from China was dumped onto Main Street, doing nothing more than hurting the merchants in town that are here already trying to stay afloat. I know it is supposed to be a way for the [Ch...
As you may or may not know, after much thought and prayerful consideration, for personal and professional reasons, I have officially notified the Governing Board of my intentions to resign effective the close of business on June 30, 3011. Please know that I will continue to work tirelessly on behalf of the students, you (as parents), and community members of the Fallbrook Union Elementary School District during my remaining tenure. I have thoroughly enjoyed my experienced working with the Fallbrook Union Elementary School...
The other day, the phone rang. The feeble, woozy, frightened voice on the line was chilling. “It’s me. You won’t believe what’s happened.” I hoped it was a wrong number, but then barely recognized the distorted voice of a friend. She had gone into the hospital for a simple surgery, expected to be there overnight and back to work soon. Instead, the surgeon punctured her bladder. When she called us four days and several transfusions later, she was still very ill. The hospital had arranged for a Medicare-supplied walker an...
We have all seen the full page ads offering to buy silver, gold, and silver and gold coins, listing the prices they will pay for each coin and for solid silver and gold. Usually they are set up at a hotel, traveling from city to city. I went to one in Carlsbad, and yes, they lived up to their ad and offered me $825 for the box of silver coins I brought in, giving me exactly what their ad said they would, and that amount included a gas allowance of $20. I decided to wait on this offer, and gave Jamie a call at the Jewelry...
The Rotary Club of Fallbrook gives generously to organizations in the community that lives up to their motto “Service above Self.” The Art Assist program of the Fallbrook Art Association (FAA) is one such organization. The Rotarians have generously donated funds to Art Assist in past years, but we are especially grateful for this year’s financial gift and support. Started in 1992 by Mary La Hue, Art Assist is an art enrichment program that literally reaches hundreds of kids. An unpaid volunteer teacher runs the program with a...
In the April 21 issue, Darren Casteel confirmed my contention that the Opinion page is the wrong forum for complex subjects as evolution. After using disparaging words such as “discredited” and “not credible” in describing Mr. Michael Behe’s books, he refers readers to third party sources, none of which have a 250 word limit. I did review one of his suggestions: www.talkorigins.org, and as I expected, its objective was to refute intelligent design and creationism. Mr. Casteel then wrote, “People will be much better informed r... Full story

My son wanted to have his tuxedo vest and tie match his date’s dress, and because it was less than a week’s notice, the large tuxedo chain we had been working with wanted to charge $57. I checked the Fallbrook Directory and discovered Village Bridal Boutique on Main Ave. Patricia was so nice and helpful, had a large selection of colors, and the vest was available in two days for $20. This is a wonderful place for formal rentals in our community; great price and great service. Susan Luerman...
My husband, Bill, has been going to “The Club” for the last five or six months and we have been very happy with the personnel. Teddi and her crew make him feel welcome each time he walks in. I feel comfortable leaving him in their hands. The ladies are all caring and professional. I don’t think many towns have the many services available that we have here in Fallbrook. SAN DIEGO COUNTY – Since West Nile virus reached the West Coast in 2003, San Diego County has used helicopters, backpack blowers, mosquito-eating fish, public education, Internet notifications and more to protect the public. “So far, our efforts have paid off, said County Supervisor Greg Cox, “Last year, there wasn’t a single reported human case of West Nile virus in San Diego County. But this is no time to relax. As we all know, diseases can strike anywhere, anytime if we let down our guards. We’ve just had a very we...
