  • Oceanside fire officials put down three fires

    Oceanside fire officials announced today they had put down three fires over the past few days, two of which caused about $250,000 in damage to a downtown hotel and a mobile home. The fire at an unoccupied mobile home at 900 North Cleveland Street broke out early Friday and crews had it under control in less than a half-hour, according to Oceanside Fire Battalion Chief Felipe Rodriguez.     Fire officials today sought to deter onlookers from entering areas burned by a wildfire that destroyed or damaged dozens of homes and businesses in Carlsbad and possibly killed a transient.     Fire crews today fully contained a 600-acre wildfire in Carlsbad that destroyed or damaged dozens of homes and businesses and possibly killed a transient this week.     The the Harmony Grove Spiritual Association, a century-old church retreat, lost 25 of its structures to the so-called Cocos Fire which burned in San Marcos and a nearby unincorporated area for a third consecutive day, county officials said today.     Commencement is scheduled this afternoon for the 50th graduating class at San Diego Mesa College. Nearly 1,400 students are set to receive academic degrees and certificates, of whom 49 achieved a 4.0 grade-point average, according to the school. Former Marine Sgt.
