  • Making a difference in Cambodia

    On December 27, 2004, a missions group of about 25 left Fallbrook for Cambodia on a two-and-a-half week ministry trip led by Randy Fleming and Kit Carson. The trip was sponsored by Calvary Chapel of Fallbrook and the Fallbrook Christian Book Store. Since the first Christian missionaries weren’t allowed in Cambodia until 1992, the mission team found that there is still a lot of work to be done.     The commercial and industrial portion of the County of San Diego’s general plan update went to the Board of Supervisors for an initial hearing May 11. The hearing included the expected continuation to May 18 to allow for East County areas to be discussed, but it also included debate on the Fallbrook Campus Park site in Fallbrook, three properties in Rainbow, and a Nelson Way site in the Lilac area.   • 4-H offers tri-tip dinner fundraiser

    The Fallbrook 4-H Beef Group will be holding its annual Tri-tip Dinner Fundraiser at the Youth Fair on May 21. Dinner will be served at the High School Ag Dept. from 4-6 p.m. at a cost of $8 per person. This has become an annual event for the Beef Group.     The San Diego County Water Authority has set a May 26 hearing to discuss a possible increase in the CWA’s system capacity charge and the potential establishment of a water treatment capacity charge.     Grant Hebner earned his initial Stars of Karting heat race victory April 23 at Beaumont’s Moran Raceway and then earned a fourth-place finish in the following day’s main event. “We actually did very well, and we did very bad,” said Hebner, who crashed during the April 23 main event.     Just two days before the windmill that serves as a landmark for the Fallbrook Land Conservancy home office was slated to be repaired and put back into service, Joy Ross passed away.     The County’s Vector Control program has begun its monthly aerial larvicide applications to local wetlands to reduce mosquito breeding and the risk of West Niles virus (WNV) now that mosquito season is here.
