    CARLSBAD - A passenger train struck and killed a pedestrian Thursday, May 30 on a stretch of rails near Tamarack Surf Beach, authorities reported. The Amtrak train was traveling to the north through Carlsbad at about 80 mph when its engineer spotted a man standing on a pedestrian crossing at Carlsbad Village Drive shortly before 8 a.m., according to sheriff's officials.   • County warns property owners to pay property taxes before fiscal year ends

    SAN DIEGO - San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister announced that his office has begun sending notices to residents who did not pay their 2018-2019 property taxes in full. Property taxes are due in two installments, paid in December and April. Residents were required to pay their second installment by April 10, but some are now facing late fees due to improper payment, according to McAllister.     PALA - A blaze broke out in the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 28 in a trailer northeast of Pala, killing a man who lived inside, authorities said. The fire on Magee Road north of state Route 76 was reported around 12:20 a.m., Cal Fire spokesman Issac Sanchez said.
