For Mother’s Day I coerced my 19-year-old son, Chris, into an overnighter in Orange County. Once he turned 19, between college, work and his active social life, he has become a ghost in our home. As part of our excursion, we were hitting Pep Boys looking to for a synthetic oil called “Royal Purple” for his much beloved 240SX. Because of its popularity store after store were out of it, and time after time, I sat in the car seeing that grimace on his face become more intense in disappointment. Why do I bring this up with you?...
We, as believers, have to deal with problems of every sort – at work, school, in our neighborhood, in civic organizations, in our churches. It would be much easier for us to deal with problems if we could keep our focus on who we are and to whom we belong. The Word of God gives us very positive guidelines for the way we should act and react. In light of our relationship with Christ, there are critical areas which each of us face. As Christians we live in a society made up of communities of people living, working, playing a...

Juliana Tipton, who lives on Big Oak Drive, is a lady with a cause. She turned 83 years old on May 12, but that milestone didn’t diminish her fight for a turn lane at South Mission and Big Oak Ranch Roads. She’s been at this since 1997. It’s no question the intersection is dangerous. Nineteen of her neighbors on that street have been hit trying to enter or exit their quiet county lane off busy South Mission. Tipton herself was a victim on February 9, 1989; a hit and run “that took the whole side of my car off;” a car that...
