It will be followed by a question and answer session and book signing of his just released best-seller “Nemesis: The Last Days of the American Republic,” in which he argues that US military and economic overreach may actually lead to the nation’s collapse as a constitutional republic. Chalmers Johnson, a former naval... Full story

  • Company won't replace wrong irises

    Updated May 24, 2007

In April 2005, we purchased from Rainbow Vista Farms three iris plants to be delivered in the fall. They got here. We planted them but after a year they bloomed but were not the colors we purchased. I have talked to them by phone and they said mistakes can be made. No longer do they sell irises. All I want people to know is that deal with someone who will stand behind their product. We were taken! H. Huff...

  • Sorensen Ranch was too good to last

    Updated May 24, 2007

In my opinion, Sorensen Ranch and Produce in Rainbow was a real class act. They offered excellent produce for a reasonable price and provided a free petting farm and fruit picking area for children as well as a picnic area for families. It was always immaculately clean and well cared for. We found it a perfect place to take our grandchildren. Unfortunately, others did not feel that way and Sorensen Ranch was forced to close for zoning violations and lack of support from the Rainbow Planning Group. Whether the fault lies with...

  • He is a real heart breaker

    Updated May 24, 2007

Tall, thin with beautiful green eyes. He has a great personality, is sweet, affectionate, playful, talkative and has an ooh so independent streak. He captivated me for five years and now he is gone. I have walked neighborhoods, handed out business cards, talked to everyone who has been willing to hear my story. I have hung posters with his picture and yet he is very elusive. If you see him you will know it is him. He is not easy to forget. He is a Bangle cat and he is carrying a piece of my heart that I would love to have... Full story

  • Quality and value in Fallbrook

    Updated May 24, 2007

I recently contacted Doyall Sams to look at my built-in office desks because I needed more work stations for my managers. His company did all the cabinetry for the spa over ten years ago and everything has held up incredibly well; especially considering there is a staff of twenty here, opening and closing doors and drawers all day long. Much to my delight, and because everything was so well built to begin with, Doyall was able to redesign my office space without ever having to build a new piece. It looks like a completely...

  • Thanks to the Fallbrook community

    Updated May 24, 2007

What a terrific day it was for the Fallbrook branch of AAUW 12th Country Garden Tour. There were so many pleasant comments about the gardens offered for view from our community. It could not have happened without the generosity and graciousness of the homeowners whose gardens were offered. There were also ample refreshments from the members of AAUW and the hostess committee who saw to it that all who came to the lovely Palomares House were served. We had a wonderful assortment of vendors, many of whom can be found at the... Full story

  • RE: Clinton for President

    Updated May 24, 2007

In response to the May 10 letter to the editor about, “Are we ready for a woman President?” After reading the dribble that was written about Hillary Rodham Clinton last week I had to respond. It would be a mistake to have her run our country. She has no clue about how to run a great republic. Just look at her duplicity and double talk on her voting record on Iraq. In addition, she tried to hijack the insurance industry with her outdated socialistic style of health care which would ruin our healthcare system and dis... Full story

  • Sorensen Ranch- illegal from the start

    Updated May 24, 2007

Mr. Sorensen of Sorensen’s Ranch Produce has implied, through his Village News advertisement and opinion letter, that the Rainbow Planning Group is the reason his business was shut down. But the truth is, Mr. Sorensen, by his own admission, never went through the proper channels for getting his property, zoned as residential, rezoned for commercial business. I would like for Mr. Sorensen to acknowledge his own mistake, rather than trying to blame the Rainbow Planning Group for his error. As for the Rainbow Planning G...

  • Batter up!

    Updated May 24, 2007

I am writing to respond to the ‘imaginary’ letter from a Camp Pendleton representative referring to the noise and pollution we in Fallbrook, are exposed to on a daily basis. Dear____, I very much appreciated your reply to my letter addressing the concerns many of us have in this community but most feel powerless to change. When folks share ideas, new thinking on all levels can occur and that can only be good for all. Some thoughts to get the ball rolling......You mentioned new technologies; I was amazed to read about the new... Full story

  • Economic nemesis is already underway

    Updated May 24, 2007

Letters last week, one by sagacious Robert F. Green and another by Glen Holzhausen, allude to the coming ruin of the American economy. Holzhausen predicts the collapse will be caused by the Democrats, somehow overlooking the incredible abuses of Mr. George Bush. Mr. Green views that the destruction is already well under way; he refers to “Armageddon on Wall Street.” The stock market is now at an historic peak. Those with large investments in the market are rolling in the dough, but the American middle class American is suffer...

  • Response to Glen Holzhausen

    Updated May 24, 2007

Glen generalizes about liberals presuming that differing opinions are always wrong. Well of course, that’s how liberals see conservatives. For example, conservatives say if you’re against the war, you don’t support the troops. As if conservatives somehow believe that the troops themselves decided to invade Iraq, and that we should never question the motives, facts, and ideology that placed them in harm’s way. Glen defends John Bolton and Paul Wolfowitz as “highly qualified.” They may both be very intelligent, but inappropria... Full story

  • Bush has abused our troops

    Updated May 24, 2007

For the past five years, our commander in chief, who likes to land on carriers and has recently referred to himself as “the decider guy” and “the commander guy,” has taken every photo-op he could to pose with healthy troops. He and his draft-dodging vice president, who reportedly made $70 million from his two wars, like to portray themselves as the champion of the troops. Over 41,000 Army, 7,000 Marines and 7,000 Navy men and women have meanwhile been hidden away at Walter Reed and other places. Only 2.7 per cent of these M...

  • RE: 'Post office continues to mishandle mail' 5-17-07

    Updated May 24, 2007

We order a lot over the Internet and have items shipped to our family post office box. We initially did this because the mail to our street address would frequently be sent to the wrong street with our same house number. We wrote the Postmaster several times, didn’t get a response or an improvement in the situation. So we thought if we got a post office box, this would take care of the problem. Then I found out that we weren’t getting the notification of our packages arriving. After a month of waiting for a package, I cal...

  • A Message from our Publisher

    Updated May 24, 2007

Every day business owners throughout the country, in addition to providing goods and services, must play the role of the tax collector for government. Businesses collect federal excise taxes, sales taxes and other fees imposed by the government. Each of these taxes and fees are disclosed to the consumer in some manner and the business remits the fees to the appropriate government agency. Yet there is one fee that businesses are forced to collect everyday and they are not allowed to inform the consumer because the credit card... Full story

  • Skilled Nursing celebrates National Nursing Home Week with makeovers, 'Fallbrook Idol'

    Updated May 24, 2007

Fallbrook Hospital’s Skilled Nursing Facility celebrated National Nursing Home Week May 13-19. This year’s theme was “Treasure Our Elders.” This special week was designated to not only celebrate and treasure the residents of the facility but to honor the staff, family members, volunteers, and community. The challenge was to find the hidden (and not so hidden) treasures, both within the residents and the facility staff. All who participated in this event were rewarded with precious memories; stories from the past and most im...

  • Cholesterol - To Meat or Not To Meat (Part I of III)

    Updated May 24, 2007

It is usually claimed that vegetarians have lower cancer rates, but the American Journal of Clinical Nutritionists published a 1994 study of California Seventh Day Adventists [who are largely vegetarian] showed that, while they did have lower rates of some cancers [e.g. breast], they had significantly higher rates of several others . 3 The US Multiple Risk Factor Intervention Trial sponsored by the National Heart and Lung Institute, compared mortality rates and eating habits of 12,000+ men. JAMA tells us that, “Those who a... Full story
