  • The trouble with baseball

    Updated May 29, 2008

The trouble with baseball is it’s just too slow. Compared with the fast pace of watching the Lakers’ Kobe Bryant charge the ball down the court or that amazing three-pointer from half court. Now that’s exciting! I saw my first Padres game in eight years Sunday. My friends and I very much enjoyed the foot-long hotdogs (with the works) and the thrill of watching the first nine innings, which ended in a 7-7 tie. But by the time the game went into its 15th inning, we decided to head for Starbucks. While waiting for our train... Full story

  • The problem with Camp Pendleton water

    Updated May 29, 2008

Also, trees on home grounds make for a more healthful environment in our community. Once again, Save Our Forest (SOF) is ready to provide a selection of trees free of charge to those ready to plant in the near future. A good...

    Updated May 29, 2008

I am a small avocado farmer in Fallbrook. After last year’s frost I treated my orchard very intensively without any pesticides, using very limited water and organic fertilizers. I believed I was also conforming with the Rainbow water company’s request to reduce my usage. Now my allotment is based on those months’ drastically reduced usage. I volunteered and reduced 40 percent myself and now they are imposing an additional 40-percent reduction. How can the county remain rural if there are no more farms? My water bill went...

The Fallbrook AAUW branch was pleased by the outpouring of support from the community for its 13th annual Country Garden Tour, held on May 10, Mother’s Day weekend. We couldn’t have done it without the graciousness of the homeowners who allowed hundreds of our inquisitive guests into their gardens and shared their tips tirelessly. We had a wonderful assortment of vendors and the committee and members of AAUW baked cookies, prepared strawberries and lent so much of the...
