Adam Herter’s freshman season on the Point Loma Nazarene University baseball team was pleasing enough to PLNU coach Joe Schaefer that Herter is being considered for the 2008 starting rotation. “We were pretty proud of him,” Schaefer said. “Pitched pretty well, maybe a little bit better than we expected.” Herter appeared in 16 games for the Sea Lions in 2007. Fallbrook High School junior Devon Holman was selected for field hockey’s National Futures Tournament. Holman earned the selection to the under-19 team at the regional tournament May 12-13 in Berkeley. “That was a great tournament. A lot of skill,” Fallbrook High School field hockey coach Kathy Waite said of the regional tournament. Two Fallbrook residents coached the Escondido Adventist Academy boys volleyball team to the Hawks’ first trip to the CIF playoffs. Head coach Dan Nicola and assistant coach Gene Popko guided the team to a 6-6 league and regular-season record, which placed third in the Coastal North League and also gave the Hawks the fifth seed in the CIF Division IV playoffs. Fallbrook High School junior Bret Hasvold qualified for the state track and field meet by finishing third among 1,600-meter runners from all school enrollment divisions at the CIF San Diego Section finals May 26 at Mount Carmel High School. Hasvold had a time of 4:15.84 in the metric mile, which placed him second among Division I runners as well as third in the section. Fallbrook High School volleyball player Taylor Hughes earned a berth on the Avocado League’s first team, while four other Warriors also garnered all-league honors for the 2007 season. As the school year slowly comes to an end, the Ag. Department is roaring with excitement getting ready for the San Diego County Fair, which is only 18 days away. Last Saturday and Sunday, the Fallbrook FFA “Aggies for a Cure” participated in the Relay For Life. The Mojica family is proud to announce the graduation of Annabel A. Mojica from Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology. Annabel graduated with a Master of Arts degree in clinical psychology with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy. She will complete her two-year traineeship at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Cheerful Helpers Child and Family Study Center in July and relocate to San Diego County.
