  • Re: 'Our apology for Director McPhee' [Letter, Village News, 6/2/2011]

    Updated Jun 9, 2011

The letter by Directors McDougal and Davies was obviously an effort to marginalize Director McPhee. I would like to remind the Board that Mr. McPhee was elected overwhelmingly over an incumbent who many constituents thought to be part of the “good old boys club.” Archie McPhee is representing those of us who are the rate payers and we hired him through popular vote. If state law does indeed prohibit the adjustment of rates for families or the elderly who live on fixed or low income, it needs to be changed; and the sooner the...

  • Caltrans' decision regarding the Existing Alternative Route for SR76

    Updated Jun 9, 2011

Although I’m very disappointed in Caltrans’ recent decision, I’m not surprised. I say this because I feel they structured the DEIR to favor the Existing Alternative Route by inflating the costs and mitigation measures of the Southern Alternative as compared to those proposed for the Existing Route. Now that Caltrans has formally announced their decision, I can only hope that they have heard the voices of the thousands of local residents that opposed the Existing Alternative during the DEIR process and that they will attem...

  • To Dr. Steiner and staff

    Updated Jun 9, 2011

I wish to express my long overdue very heartfelt thanks to Dr. Charlie Steiner, DVM, and the Avocado Animal Hospital staff. My thank-you has been delayed over a year because I have had a very difficult time even thinking about what happened to my “heart dog.” She was my “Love on a Leash” therapy German shepherd dog, Jill. I took Jill to Dr. Steiner at age nine with a very serious allergy skin problem thinking I was really going to lose her, until Dr. Steiner’s treatment bought her two more years of good life. Then, at 11 year... Full story

  • McStay case continues to trouble me

    Updated Jun 9, 2011

In a recent issue of People magazine, there was an article featuring the McStay family’s disappearance. This has troubled me since it occurred and I can’t understand why this community has not been outraged at this. You see very little in print anymore and it seems as though community support and/or action is non-existent. This happened the same time that John Gardner was killing people and in the same vicinity. I can’t help but think that somewhere along the way we might have failed this family in not blasting this conti... Full story

    Updated Jun 9, 2011

The Village News is looking for all the businesses that suffered and/or closed after the 2007 Rice Fire. It is our experience that many business owners had a hard time recovering after losing their home, or if they were retailers, they had a hard time recovering from the loss of customers who were more focused on recovery rather than the holidays. Many businesses tightened their belts, as we did, after the fire and went into survival mode. I am interested in talking with you. Please email me at [email protected]....
