  • Re: The 'entitlement mentality' [Letters, Village News, 5/31/2012]

    Updated Jun 14, 2012

The above referenced letter parrots the GOP mantra: liberals have an entitlement mentality. Actually, entitlement mentality appears to be associated with the wealthy rather than any partisan part of the employee class. For example: 1. The wealthy who feel entitled to take the tax cuts intended for “job creators,” even though they haven’t created any jobs and have no intention to do so. 2. The wealthy who feel entitled to ship the jobs they have created overseas, while an estimated 23 million Americans are out of work. 3. CEO...

  • Thank you to an unsung hero

    Updated Jun 14, 2012

One of Bonsall/Fallbrook’s unsung heroes is wrapping up her career in the Bonsall School District. Vicky Johnson is retiring after 20 years. She’s not a teacher or an administrator, but has had a huge impact on thousands of kids. Vicky started out driving the school bus and eventually became the Jill-of-all-trades at Bonsall Elementary. Our girls call her the Busy Bee of Bonsall because she seems to be everywhere. She’s the lunch lady. She’s responsible for keeping the campus looking great. During the summer, she’s scouring e...

  • Our troops need your help

    Updated Jun 14, 2012

We need your help supporting some brave Marines and Navy Corpsmen who are returning next week and the following week from Afghanistan. They will only be at Camp Pendleton for a few days while they transition to their home base. They arrive in the uniform that they wore in Afghanistan and a few odds and ends and are really looking for a shower, a change of clothes, and some home snacks/food. They are coming having lost a buddy and would be cheered up by your support. They will not have family in the area and there is no other...

Fallbrook is known not only for its many civic-minded organizations and individuals, but moreover, for the way in which residents cooperate for the good of the community. He and his staff, (nurses, front desk, x-ray, you name it) have all been nothing less than friendly, professional, courteous and welcoming, never making us feel rushe...

  • Volunteers appreciated the food

    Updated Jun 14, 2012

Thank you, Tom Mulholland, owner/operator of the Firehouse Broiler located at 1019 S. Main Ave. in Fallbrook! When Tom had food left over after a Fallbrook High School swim team party at his restaurant last week, he donated several trays of delicious pieces of chicken and pulled pork to the volunteers at the Fallbrook Food Pantry. Food Pantry volunteers serve others out of the goodness of their hearts and sometimes the work can get pretty hectic. They work from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., often without a break. So, the volunteers... Full story
