Promotion ceremonies were held this past Tuesday at Potter Junior High. Family and friends watched as their eighth-graders ended one chapter in their lives and got ready to begin another at the high school. The students had a fun time at the dance afterward and had the chance to kick up their heels with their friends. The following day the eighth grade class went to Knott’s Berry Farm and had a blast. NEW YORK — Desiree Salomone, FUHS Class of 2002, graduated from prestigious Sarah Lawrence College on May 19, 2006. Desiree received her Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal arts. La Paloma students and staff recently sent a heartfelt farewell to their principal, Cathy Kerley, who will be retiring upon completion of this school year. The student council presented a “retirement survival” beach bag to Mrs. Kerley, complete with sunglasses, a beach hat and leisure magazines. Mrs. Kerley, who has spent 34 years in education, plans to stay involved and continue to support the Fallbrook schools. Kristen Hughes of Fallbrook graduated May 29, 2006, from Cornell University in New York. She received a Bachelors of Science in communications, law and society concentration. Kristen played volleyball on the Cornell team, which won two Ivy League Championships and went to NCAAs this year. The California Department of Transportation updated its traffic prediction data for State Route 76 in May, and the new data once again confirms the need for a six-lane highway between Melrose Drive and Mission Road by the year 2030. “Our current traffic data, we believe, indicates the need for six lanes. The Sheriff’s Department has reported a sharp increase in vehicle thefts and burglaries in the past two weeks in the Fallbrook area. “We are encouraging the public to take every precaution right now in regards to their vehicles,” said Sgt. Rich Hendrickson. Both graduated from Perdue University, Bert with a degree in aeronautical engineering and Martha with a degree in home economics.
