The cameras were rolling for the reality series, “Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood,” and filmed the couple as they took a motorcycle ride on Rainbow Heights Road. The bike turned onto Rainbow Crest and ended up at the farm, Monaghan said. He had sold and just closed escrow on an 1...

The C.A.S.T. parking lot is a perfect location for a rummage sale. Thanks to the k... Full story

  • Who dictates pro-Liberty quarry letters?

    Updated Jul 1, 2010

When you see a pro-Liberty quarry letter in the newspaper, do you ever wonder if it actually comes from a “grassroots” supporter or is it simply “paid advertising?” Several recent letters aroused my curiosity, so I managed to gather together 15 of these letters and read them carefully. With a few exceptions, I noticed an interesting pattern. One could even say the phrases and words chosen were like those you would see in say marketing brochures, speeches, or consultant’s reports – in other words, professional correspon... Full story

  • Keep Fallbrook safe

    Updated Jul 1, 2010

As the fire season quickly approaches, I’d like to express my concerns about Caltrans’ route alternative selection (the “Northern Existing Alignment” vs. the “Southern Alignment”) for the east section of the SR76 Widening project. Having experienced the San Luis Rey riverbed fires in the east section of the SR76 project area in 2007 and the Rice Canyon fire in 2007, I’m very well aware of how quickly these types of fires can engulf an area. I feel it is crucial that Caltrans select the right alternative - the “Southern Alt...

  • Summer blessings

    Updated Jul 1, 2010

As my partner and I began our first lazy days of summer watching children frolic in the yard without a care in the world, we became aware of the sound of the helicopters from our neighbors at Camp Pendleton passing overhead. For many, the sound of these flying machines is an annoyance. To us, it is a comforting reminder of the many men and women who have selflessly chosen a life of service to our country. As we all celebrate our freedom this Fourth of July, let us not forget those who have made it possible. We are two proud...

There is money inside. If either of you can confirm the other names on the cards, please come and pick up the nice package. Please call (760) 728-5395 first. Jackie Heyneman...

  • Let's go south with the final expansion of SR-76

    Updated Jul 1, 2010

I wonder if Caltrans really cares about the concerns voiced by our community members in connection with the final expansion of Highway 76 from South Mission Road to Interstate 15. A northern route along the existing roadway elicits community fears over our traffic safety; fires that plague Fallbrook, and our ability to evacuate quickly; and the negative impact on our community character, access, cohesion, homes and our businesses. I attended a meeting with Caltrans representatives who said the traffic study they did only...

  • Fight Sex Slavery by going to Freedom Fest Benefit

After the seminar we are having a concert to raise money and awareness for the two groups. Come enjoy Reggae, Rock, Punk and Indie/Acoustic. This is a way Village News readers can make a...

  • A thank you to two angels

    Updated Jul 1, 2010

I would like to thank two angels in disguise: Ashley Miller and Jeanie Vaga, who saw my dilemma. My Chrysler Town & Country van had stalled in the middle of the intersection at Fallbrook St. and Mission Road. They each pulled over off the street and came running back to help. These two young ladies pushed my heavy van to safety. Where were the men? In cars looking, but not one stopped as they were all anxious to move on as I really had the intersection blocked. Ashley went home to get a gas can and then got gas to put into...

  • Show gratitude by volunteering

    Updated Jul 1, 2010

With July 4th approaching, how can we reaffirm our gratitude for our freedom? If we’re not equipped for military duty like our all-volunteer force, we can still show our gratitude through volunteering. Many worthy nonprofits need our help. I’ve chosen two that, for me, reconnect me to my humanity: The Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary saves and finds homes for abandoned pets. TIP - Trauma Intervention Program - sends volunteers to be with survivors of traumatic events (usually sudden deaths) until family members arrive. Many kno... Full story

  • Re: 'Where was Obama on Memorial Day?' [Letter, Village News, 6-10-10]

    Updated Jul 1, 2010

Mr. Dooley or whoever you are – yes, you are correct in that Mr. Obama was one of the presidents, not the only one, to not attend the Arlington Wreath Laying Ceremony. I give you due credit for that. The remainder of my article was very appropriate. Apparently you are a lefty (with a large ego). It is too bad that you lefty’s continue to support the most radical president that has been in office. I dare you to challenge that comment. The recent crisis in the Gulf is another great example of the president’s lack of lea...
