  • CWA approves rate increases

    The San Diego County Water Authority (CWA) board approved increased rates and charges for the upcoming year. Mark Muir of the Olivenhain Municipal Water District was the only CWA board member to vote against the rate increase June 23. In addition to setting the various components of CWA rates, the board action also approved each member agency’s share of pro-rata assessments.     Florene “Flore” Emory died on June 4, 2011, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Born November 18, 1924, to Oliver and Jewel Hooker in Brownsville, Texas, Flore was the oldest of four children. Eventually the family settled in Burbank, Calif., where she met the love of her life, Neil Emory. Neil and Flore married July 3, 1942 when she was just 17.     Eunice Gird Van Dyke Day, 89, died June 29, 2011. She married Gilbert R. Van Dyke, Jr., also from Fallbrook, and they had three children. She had lived in Long Beach, Calif. for 65 years and is survived by one daughter, five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She always spoke fondly of growing up in Fallbrook on the Gird Ranch.
