A Bonsall family may soon find themselves without a roof over their heads as the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) continues its plans to widen SR-76. Ron Alvarado, a 67-year-old man living near the E. The world’s most addictive sporting event is almost over. After 60 nail-biting matches from South Africa, all but four of 32 teams have returned home. The US team finished top of their group for the first time in the 40 years of World Cup competition and finally fell to the last African qualifier, Ghana. This is no mean feat for a country that doesn’t regard this game as “real” football! If a game played strictly with brilliantly dancing feet isn’t football, what is? FIFA, the organizing body stands for the Fédératio...
In a recent local publication, one of our politicos egotistically asserted that government provides for our safety, and not God or Creation; this nonsensical point of view necessitates higher willing and wisdom, to avoid confusing our children: those young in age, and those immature in thought. Your Spirit, a creation of the Divine hovers spiritually over your body, in complete and eternal safety – thank God for this, not government or government officials! The hovering Spirit of the Divine never enters your body; your...
Let’s label this Political Commentary 101: Any criticisms generated from the left to the right are generally characterized by main stream media as enlightened reasoning designed to help us dim witted right-wingers see the obvious. Any criticisms generated from the right to the left are characterized as racist hatred; case in point, the letters written about Jim Lowery’s comments on the actions of our current president. I must admit that when The One was elected I was hopeful that he would bring some much-needed change to Wash...
I am concerned about the pending decision regarding the proposed route extension of SR76 between Mission Road and I-15. It is my understanding that the Caltrans ‘preferred’ northern route under consideration will have very limited access to the planned four lanes. Many of the local streets will have only ‘right in-right out’ access to SR76 requiring a U-turn at a signalized corner to go in the opposite direction. One alternative proposal is to open up non-signalized intersections. This is an invitation to serious acciden...
It’s been over two months since the oil well began gushing into the Gulf of Mexico. More than 83 million gallons of oil have gushed and it is still gushing into the ocean. We know about the destruction of the marshes and the beaches and the fishing industry all along the Gulf; we know about the businesses lost and the turtles burned to death and the birds now covered in oil; we know about the impending danger of a hurricane that could spread the oil to other parts of the country, around Florida, killing the live coral r... I was recently incapacitated for two weeks as a result of surgery and was unable to get out of my house. I contacted the Fallbrook Senior Center about Meals on Wheels and every day, without fail, for two weeks, I received a healthy, tasty, nutritious meal that included a hearty portion of meat, chicken, or fish (one day it was delicious shrimp); a small salad; vegetables; milk; and a dessert. All for $3.50 delivered to the door. It was a godsend for me, and I am grateful that we have an organization in Fallbrook that...
I want to publicly thank Pat McDougal and the Fallbrook Beautification Alliance for making Fallbrook such a beautiful place to live. There are many areas of Fallbrook that these volunteers have completely transformed. One in particular is on South Mission Road. I can’t help but admire the vibrant displays of flowers, shrubs, and trees that grace the medians and hillsides of this busy street. Every time I pass by, I see Pat McDougal carefully planting, weeding, and tending to the landscaping that both welcomes us to town a...
I would like to thank the greater Fallbrook community for its support of the Fallbrook Garden Club events. Your support made both our flower show and garden tour a great success. I would especially like to thank the Village News for offering the use of their facility for our flower show. It was a wonderful venue for the event. I would also like to thank all the homeowners who allowed us to show their beautiful gardens in our garden tour. In addition, I need to thank the Fallbrook Historical Society for letting us use their...
