  • Re: 'Where was Obama on Memorial Day?' [Letter, Village News, 6/10/10]

    Updated Jul 15, 2010

Dear Jon, I really get a kick reading your response to my letter. You say I am angry, how about you? I have never read such a vitriolic letter. Perhaps you need an anger management class, as you have consumed too much Obama Cool Aid. No need to teach a history lesson about Memorial Day or any other day. You need to cite ten positive accomplishments since Obama took office. Let me see, maybe I can help you. The Obamacare no one wanted, but got? Maybe the takeover of the auto industry, financial industry, or how about the role... Full story

  • Shame on those that discredit Granite

    Updated Jul 15, 2010

The anti-quarry groups will do anything to discredit Granite Construction and the quarry they propose to build. My wife and I are amazed to read and hear the misinformation and negative tone of the anti-quarry folks. Not only are they displaying unrelated photographs of overturned trucks, fictional statistics, trashed rivers, they are using outright misinformation about the effects of the quarry on the environment, i.e., water, air and traffic. When we owned 20 acres on Rollins Lake in Grass Valley, Calif., we passed a...

  • Why not widen Gopher Canyon Road?

    Updated Jul 15, 2010

If you draw a straight line from the end of the current four lane at Jeffrey Ranch to Interstate 15, the shortest distance follows an existing road, Gopher Canyon . Would it not be much cheaper, less damaging to the environment, and more apt to save lives in another wildfire to widen Gopher Canyon Road instead having a massive building project in a flood plain? Also, has Caltrans made any provision for public transit, or bike...

  • Fruits of labor

    Updated Jul 15, 2010

On a sultry July evening, we sat at our patio table enjoying a delicious home grown salad and fresh grilled squash. We pondered as to why this meal seemed so much better than the store bought variety. It occurred to us that it was due to our hard work and labor of love in our very own backyard garden. It dawned on us that in deed, an honest day’s work is so much more satisfying than expecting others to provide for you. H. and J. Crow... Full story
