HEMET - A man suspected of killing a 77-year-old Hemet woman in a hit-and-run collision and eluding authorities for nearly two weeks was behind bars today. Salvador Almanza, 48, surrendered at the Hemet Police Station, 450 E. Latham Ave., around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Lt. Dean Evans. HEMET - On Monday July 18, 2011, Deputies from the Hemet Sheriff's Station responded to the 25500 block of Sharp Drive, in the unincorporated county area of Hemet, known as Valle Vista, in reference to a five-year-old child that was found not breathing in a community pool. Emergency medical personnel responded and performed CPR. SAN JACINTO - A Moreno Valley man died today in a head-on crash outside a Church of Scientology compound in San Jacinto. Oscar Avila, 31, died at the scene of the 6:30 a.m. collision at 19625 Gilman Springs Road, across the street from the Golden Era Production Studios, according to the California Highway Patrol.
