  • Wasn't it grand?

    Updated Jul 21, 2011

The Fallbrook Beautification Alliance once again has given the community a wonderful small town get-together and actually passed the test to provide funds for our community project. For those who attended, it was so good to see you there. Many beautiful sights we enjoy all year have been initiated by the FBA. • Fallbrook High resembles Juvenile Hall

    Updated Jul 21, 2011

I have an idea. Instead of spending money on fences and guards to keep our teenagers in school, why not spend it on creating an environment that inspires them to learn, text books that are not out of date and a weekly school newspaper? This list goes on, but Fallbrook’s educators decided that the solution was to simply lock them in. Fallbrook High resembles Juvenile Hall, not a school. If our school board would read the minimum amount of research on teenage behavior and mental development, they would know that the moment t... Full story

  • Fallbrook Hospital is a good option

    Updated Jul 21, 2011

I’d like to express my good fortune of having knee replacement surgery done at Fallbrook Hospital several weeks ago. My doctor here in Murrieta explained that our local Valley hospitals would require a scheduling delay, but that he could arrange the surgery sooner in Fallbrook. I opted to go there. The doctors, nurses and volunteers all provided friendly help when needed. Now I understand why (official) hospital oversight groups have given Fallbrook’s hospital consistently high ratings compared with larger facilities nea...

  • Is state fire fee a cash grab?

    Updated Jul 21, 2011

A story that ran in the Mercury News (www.mercurynews.com) recently, “Governor signs bill imposing $150 firefighting fee for rural areas” should be read. According to a local fire official, almost all of Fallbrook is considered “rural” (all except four square miles of downtown), so most of us will have the privilege of paying this ridiculous $150 fee/tax. I am also told that, as written, revenue from the $150 “fee” would go to Cal Fire and an equivalent amount of general funds would be removed from Cal Fire’s budget for no...

  • California is behind the times

    Updated Jul 21, 2011

Our news media prints senseless comments concerning carbon dioxide on Mother Earth’s surface made by dumb politicians and uneducated environmentalists. False comments originate from environmental attorneys who have no education in earth sciences and whose only goal is putting money into their own pockets as well as exterminating all living things on Mother Earth’s growing surface. They believe there are too many humans on Mother Earth; let’s eliminate them first. There are 15,000 seawater desalination plants today in the glob...

  • Hailey Drew named to all-CIF second team in softball

    Updated Jul 21, 2011

Fallbrook High School freshman Hailey Drew was selected to the all-CIF second team for softball. A panel of media members and coaches selected the all-CIF first and second teams during a May 31 meeting. Drew was the only freshman on either the first team or the second team. Drew is a shortstop, as is CIF San Diego Section softball player of the year Haley Steele. “The kid who plays her position is all-CIF player of the year, so that’s not bad company to be in,” said Fallbrook co-coach Shannon Koran. Steele graduated from...

Jamie Garcia spent Memorial Day weekend at field hockey’s Futures Development Invitational Camp. The camp was held May 27 through 30 at American University in Washington, DC. “It was very intense. The level of play was a lot better what I’ve had previously,” said Garcia, who completed her junior year at Fallbrook High School last month. “They were all elite players that were there, so they were very good.” In June 2010, Garcia played on the under-16 California regional team in the National Futures Championship tournament....

  • When the streets roll up at 5 p.m., explore the late night at Pala Casino

    Updated Jul 21, 2011

When I began writing for the Fallbrook/Bonsall Village News I started hearing complaints that Fallbrook closes down at 5:00 p.m. After covering one Saturday night event at Pala Casino, I decided not to return home that night, but rather to observe the casino during the first six hours of Sunday morning. What happens on a weekend night is likely different than what happens late on a weeknight, in part because of what restaurants and entertainment venues are or aren’t open a...

ANZA - The cause of a brush fire that burned an unoccupied outbuilding in Anza remained under investigation today, a county fire spokeswoman said. The blaze, dubbed the ''Pony Fire,'' was contained at 35 acres around 8 p.m. Thursday. The fire broke out about seven hours earlier near Howard Road and Pony Trail, southwest of Idyllwild, said Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson. Firefighters and Riverside County sheriff's deputies initially evacuated a dozen structures, but crews contained the threat... Full story
