  • Found in England

    Updated Jul 28, 2006

To lapse into good old Northern English vernacular, I was “gob-smacked” when I received a call from Debbie Ramsey on July 5 saying she had a message for me sent via the Village News Web site in response to a letter I wrote to the Fallbrook Hospital back in February. Here’s what it said: “If this article is about Susan R. Thorne, please give her my e-mail address and ask her to contact me. I am her brother in London, UK. Kind regards, Rick Fitch.” What’s so amazing about this message is that I hadn’t heard from my brother Rich... Full story

Both the San Luis Rey River Park acquisition money and the Multiple Species Conservation Program (MSCP) funding were d...

RAINBOW- Residents in the 2000 block of Rainbow Glen Road reported that nine to ten gunshots were fired outside their residences and 24 mailboxes were damaged, between 1:00-1:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 23, by two or more individuals in an older Isuzu Trooper with a loud exhaust. That latter lot is owned by the county....

  • Public workshops offered by Rainbow Water

    Updated Jul 28, 2006

Annexation. It is the one simple word that surrounds volumes of controversy in the water districts near the I-15/SR-76 corridor. Many area residents can speak their mind at four upcoming public workshops with the Rainbow Municipal Water District (RMWD), located primarily west of the intersection with a sliver of land to the east of I-15. The San Luis Rey Municipal Water District (SLRMWD) is moving forward in the process of activating its latent powers with what is commonly referred to as LAFCO, an acronym for the Local...

  • Jean Dooley: Keeper of the Promenade

    Updated Jul 28, 2006

FALLBROOK- One of Fallbrook’s underutilized treasures is the Pico Promenade, which meanders downtown between Fallbrook and Elder Streets. What strikes first-time “Promenaders” is just how clean and well-maintained the walkway is, as if there is a crew looking after it on a regular basis. In actuality there is just a crew of one, Jean Dooley, Fallbrook Save Our Forest volunteer. For over six years Jean has been removing trash, replacing dead plants, trimming trees, raking, pruning, and otherwise keeping the promenade in a park...

  • FHS band needs committed students, director

    Updated Jul 28, 2006

I am writing in response to your June 22 article about the Fallbrook High School (FHS) band. My daughter has been in band for the past three years. The first two years, the program was thriving and winning awards. In contrast, the 2005/2006 season suffered the loss of many students. It would be a great loss to see it languish further. Marching band requires much more than showing up for Friday night football games. Band starts rehearsing two weeks before school starts. Once school starts, the band rehearses after school four... Full story

  • Appeasing the Base

    Updated Jul 28, 2006

After five and a half years in office, President Bush vetoed his first bill. It seems that no amount of pork-barrel spending, a significant portion of the ballooning deficit, was enough to earn his veto. But the bill to use federal dollars for stem-cell research was too much for Bush to tolerate — despite pleas from Nancy Reagan and Republican Senate Majority Leader Dr. Bill Frist, and almost the entire scientific community. The bill was passed with bi-partisan support — but tragically, not quite enough to override Bus...

  • We do not need another airport

    Updated Jul 28, 2006

Thank you, Jim Russell, for pointing out another aspect to the issue. The bottom line is, however, that we do not need — and cannot afford — a new airport and certainly not at Miramar. And most certainly not at the cost of the Marines and our national security!... Full story

  • Thanks for supporting fair auction

    Updated Jul 28, 2006

I recently took an animal to the San Diego County Fair and would like to thank all of the local businesses from Fallbrook who helped support the youth with their projects. They took Monday, July 3, off work to come down to the auction to support all the kids doing animal projects. Their support is greatly appreciated. These businesses that help support the youth are doing a great service to the kids. With our projects we learned teamwork, responsibility, hard work, time management and leadership skills to help us in the...

  • A water district's mission is to provide safe drinking water

    Updated Jul 28, 2006

The newspapers have chronicled Rainbow Municipal Water District’s recent history of being cited and fined by the Department of Health for lapses in the safety area. For a number of years, covering the open reservoirs was at the top of the Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) list. Then mysteriously it was supplanted by the Rice Canyon Distribution Main. Nobody ever came to the board meetings to complain about lack of adequate water in that area, yet we have already expended $280K on just engineering studies of the line. Now t...

  • An open letter to President Bush

    Updated Jul 28, 2006

Dear President Bush, The news on the radio yesterday and today moves me to write. I think it said “Twelve Palestinians were killed in an Israeli attack to force the release of a captured Israeli soldier,” and today “Eight Israeli soldiers were killed during an Israeli attack in Lebanon to stop terrorist rocket attacks on Israel,” and “Seventy Palestinians, fighters and civilians, have been killed, and critical utilities destroyed by recent fighting in Gaza Territories.” It’s obvious to me that this unending cycle of atta... Full story

  • The Israeli/Zionist propaganda machine

    Updated Jul 28, 2006

Whether we realize it or not, the pro-Israeli “spin” on events in the Middle East is all we ever get from our government and from the “talking heads” in our Zionist-controlled news sources. You have only to ask the average American for the causes behind the current escalation of violence, to realize that we are completely at the mercy of the Israeli/Zionist lobby and news sources. Yes, the Palestinians in Gaza captured an Israeli soldier but there was no mention of the thousands of Palestinians kidnapped in Gaza and thrown...

  • Persecution in Sudan

    Updated Jul 28, 2006

Almost every country in Africa is in a state of upheaval right now. Sudan, however, looks to be in the worst shape. Arab Muslims in the north are killing Black Christians in the Darfur region of the country. Their plan, as in many other hot spots of the world, is to push radical Islam on the people by force. Convert or die! Also, slavery still exists in this part of the world. As centuries ago, Black Africans are bought and sold by Arab Africans to anyone who will buy them. No one ever told them that slavery was a cast away...
