Thank you for your reaction to last week's press release submitted to us. You are absolutely right. We were so focused on news coverage and fires that less time was spent editing and it was a poor decision to run that press release on the front page, because it editorialized within the press release. One of the things we've prided ourselves on is not editorializing in our stories and not putting editorial pieces on the front page, which is a problem nationwide right now. We have reviewed our systems and policies this week to... Full story
"Barefoot in the Park" is like opening a time capsule. It is the timeless tale of a loving couple settling into married life. Neil Simon penned it early in his career. He captured the vibrancy of the Camelot era; as the Kennedy's settled into the White House, newlyweds Corie and Paul Bratter moved into their fifth-floor walk-up in Greenwich Village. "Barefoot" was only Simon's second play, but it brought him his first big success. It was 1963. Some suggest it is reminiscent... Full story
I am writing, hoping a sponsor or donor of the Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary reads this and could find out and let us know what that "charitable" organization has done with our four mother cats. Around the first of June, Janet Lecore offered to take the kittens as sanctuary inventory. She also proposed to take our adult cats to the vet to be neutered at below cost. During the next two days, Janet and her crew picked up most of the kittens and "Simba" and "Yackie," both solid black. Later, I delivered "Wacky" and "Princess" to... Full story
As part of a loose group of Christian people here in Fallbrook who help those who are homeless, I need to share an observation concerning a 77-year-old lady named Cody. After the ranch changed hands, she retired and moved here to Fallbrook and began her wait for HUD housing while living in her camper truck. Having a heart for this friendly village, she started... Fire investigators recently announced that the cause of the deadly Carr fire in Redding was a flat tire on a trailer. When the rim scraped the concrete roadway, it sparked a fire. Wildfires are the biggest disaster risk San Diegans regularly face, and most are caused by people in some way. In fact, vehicle-related fires are in the top two causes of wildfires in the county. These fires can be a vehicle engine catching fire because it is poorly maintained, a failing catalytic...

Last week’s front page article about the “grassroots campaign” to build a new Bonsall high school shouldn’t be passed off as a news article. This was a press release and propaganda. There were no opposing views offered, even though there are several well-known organizations who have who have attended the school district’s board meetings voicing their objections and concerns about the proposed school. There were unsubstantiated statements made about property values rising if the school is built. The “article” stated that the c... Full story
In last week’s issue of the Village News, you had a front page story with the headline ‘Residents pledge support to school bond”. Familiar with the ongoing issue, the plea for funding of a high school in Fallbrook for Bonsall students to be located on Gird Road, I was unsurprised to read that they were looking to get the bond back on the ballot this November. What did surprise me was the one-sidedness of the peculiar arguments it made for the school. It talked about the “outpouring of support”, yet mentioned just “more tha... Full story
