    LAKE HEMET - The National Weather Service in San Diego issued a severe weather alert for the Lake hemet area, as Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm moving north slowly through the San Jacinto Mountains. The storm could bring with it heavy rain and hail the size of nickels with some flooding possible and wind gusts up to 50 mph, the weather service said.   • Fallbrook man arrested on suspicion of stealing 1,000 pounds of avocados

    FALLBROOK - A Fallbrook man was arrested on suspicion of stealing about 1,000 pounds of avocados -- worth about $1,500 -- from a grove in Bonsall, Sheriff's deputies announced today. Surveillance cameras captured the March 15 crime and the suspect was later identified as Barron Stein, 43, Detective Jim Pucillo said. Stein has a history of avocado theft, Pucillo said.   • Stolen vehicle chase causes fire in Rice Canyon

    A highway chase on the SR 76 led to a five acre brush fire in Rice Canyon on Thursday, Aug. 25, at approximately 5 p.m. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) Sgt.     CAMP PENDLETON - A 13-year-old girl was fatally injured today in a house fire at Camp Pendleton, base officials said. The single-family home caught fire for unknown reasons about 6:30 a.m. in the O'Neill Heights residential area of the base, Sgt. John Jackson said.
