  • Historic and fascinating Windsor

    Updated Sep 13, 2007

Windsor, England is a fascinating city with a bustling, but not crazily crowded town centre and Windsor Castle crowning the city. I know it is proper to call England “The UK” or Britain, but I still use England because it is an ancient term and reeks of history. One of my favorite places in England has alway been Windsor. There, visitors meet a history-infused town with a frosting of quaint shops and pubs. I have stayed in Windsor several times and was fortunate to discover the Langton House Bed and Breakfast early on. Now, a...

Gus Albers, a 22-year Fallbrook resident, has become a local legend to fellow onion growers. For the past ten years, Albers has been so successful growing his own beautiful and delicious onions that he has been ordering onion starts by the case and distributing to friends. Albers has introduced many to his knack for growing delicious onions. He enjoys delivering the tiny plants and hearing just a few months later how well they have done. In fact, two of his friends, Jerri Patchett and Dave Ashton, have each won a blue ribbon... Full story

  • ORGANIC GARDEN PATCH

    Updated Sep 13, 2007

That was one spicy “hot-a” spell. Good thing we hesitated to plant before it occurred. Most things would have been fried. My tomatoes suffered, my peppers suffered and my wallet suffered from the water bill. Hopefully, the extreme heat spells are over. Just to be safe we are going to start the fall/winter garden with the hardiest: chard, collards and kale. These three represent the healthiest of the healthiest we can grow and can take a little heat if it does happen again. Collards: the song of the South. The Celtics bro...
