On Sept. 8 and 9, the biggest power outage in the history of California struck all of San Diego County and portions of Orange County. More than five million people were left without electricity for 12 hours after an Arizona Public Service employee tripped a transmission line near Yuma, Arizona. The store manager, Chris Jenkins, and his crew were wonderful to order all 75 of the backpacks and most of the supplies to fill them. While private business gives their recourses freely, and hardly are ever recognized, I want to take a minute to share some small town appreciation. Pala Mesa Resort, Fallbrook Golf Course, and Golf Club of California, all located in Fallbrook, have for many years allowed our high school golf team to practice, and hold matches at their facilities. The Angel Society of Fallbrook is a true philanthropic angel in every sense of the word. The Angels have helped fund the Art Assist Program of the Fallbrook Art Association (FAA) for many years and we are especially grateful for this year's financial gift and support. Art Assist is a program under the auspices of FAA. Volunteers go to the local elementary schools to teach art to students. It took Jahna Jordan four games to earn her college first field hockey win. The 2011 Fallbrook High School graduate is now the starting goalkeeper for Kent State University's team. The Golden Flashes lost their first three games of the season before attaining a 3-2 overtime victory September 3 against Massachusetts. A year ago Jordan was the starting goalie for Fallbrook High School's field hockey team. Although only one of them is playing this year, the Western New Mexico University (WNMU) football team now has three Sumpter brothers. T.J.
