The audacity of FPUD councilmembers to admit that they really don’t care about the residents of Fallbrook; once again, they have stepped into the arena of nonsensical decisions. The GM received a COLA on January 1. Why did he need a bonus just six months later? Did the employees who do the dirty work get a bonus? Also, why did they change the ordinance regarding employment? Is it because the GM really must be getting terrified that his cushion position is eroding very fast? Larry, just in case you did not read my comment o...
I started Controltec in my home’s spare bedroom on Foxfire Road in Fallbrook in 1993. We first rented an office in the Seers Industrial Building on East Mission. Then we moved into a suite on East Alvarado before we leased the building on South Main on September 15, 1996. Twelve years later to the day, we’re moving out. Initially, everyone who worked at Controltec lived in Fallbrook. Now, most of our almost 40 employees commute from Temecula, Murrieta, Oceanside and San Diego. When our Fallbrook office became too small in...
Dear fellow residents, It’s no secret that many of us are suffering through hard economic times. Not to sound too much like a politician, but I think that better days are ahead. I have talked to many of our fine local restaurant owners and some are having a tough time as well. Contrary to popular wisdom, we have some excellent food options in this town. I know that times are tight but I ask that the next time you decide to drive to the coast or elsewhere to dine, you consider our fine local restaurants first. Robert S...
I promised I would attend the next “law enforcement appreciation day.” I did just that on September 10 in Bonsall. I was amused that few if any citizens attended this back-slapping event of their own selves other than the participant families. I can understand why, considering the questionable job Captain Webb of the California Highway Patrol is doing in the area. I do give credit to the nice men and women of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and the senior volunteer officers, but the problem still exists with the C... Full story
The 17th annual CROP Walk was not as great a success as the past four years when we raised almost $70,000 each year and Fallbrook was number one on the West Coast. Nationwide there are nearly 2,000 walks. We still ranked in the top 25 by raising $48,000. Christ The King did a great job of raising $17,513. The Fallbrook Food Pantry received $12,000. In the past, the Pantry helped about 30 recipients per day. Today that figure is almost 100 per day. Over the last decade, there has been great progress in fighting hunger...
Robert Green, you are absolutely right about the irony of Bush’s embarrassing comments concerning Russia and Georgia, after he lied and manipulated intelligence to get us to invade Iraq, something which is obvious to everyone except die hard neo-cons. Mainstream media is too often accused of being left wing liberal leaning, so I think they are backing off this failure of a president and letting the obvious slide. The real way to get anyone’s attention is to reject the lock-step disciples of Bush, such as McBush, Palin, Iss...
The letter by Jon Monday in the August 28 Village News [“McCain could be worse than Bush”] is stunning. It seems he is against the U.S. in Iraq where we deposed a totalitarian despot and is for the (almost totally) autocratic Russia attacking a democratic Georgia. Can we conclude from that that he favors totalitarianism over democracy? If that is not the case, it would be nice if he would explain when totalitarians are good and when they are not good. Also, what is his position on Chavez in Venezuela? Does he think he is bett...
The Fallbrook High School cheerleaders and their parents would like to thank Albertsons and Major Market for their contribution to the cheerleading program’s fundraising efforts. In August, the cheerleaders sold root beer floats and offered a car wash at Albertsons. They also held a raffle with San Diego Charger Luis Castillo assisting and providing the basket of Charger items raffled in front of Major Market. Coaches Megan Dahl, Allison Abbott and Stephanie Lowell are working hard to provide a well-rounded program that o...
I stand behind the Fallbrook Union Elementary School District for their determination to keep our campuses drug-free. Assistant Superintendent Whitlock claims “99 percent of the parents are going to welcome anything we can do to make sure our facilities are drug-free.” I was one of the parents who attended the August 18 FUESD governing board meeting. I opposed the proposal. Not all parents welcome anything. There are limits. A drug-free environment is one part of a safe learning environment. Intimidation of the entire stu...
In a letter to the editor [North County Times, 8/15/08], Jeff Lassle of Fallbrook rails about the China juggernaut overcoming the US economy. His stated reasons relate to creeping socialism and overregulation in the US marketplace. These are the very same criticisms we of the West level against the Chinese! Here we have an outright Communist nation practicing all those traits we are supposed to hate: forced labor, complete government control, limited human rights and more. In other words, we are being overhauled by an economy...
