Fallbrook High School’s field hockey team only lost four games last year while winning the CIF Division I championship. This year the Warriors lost two games to begin the season before obtaining their first win Sept. 11 at home against Poway. “I think the difference was we had more ball control,” Fallbrook coach Kirstin Mueller said of the win compared to the two losses. Mueller also cited passing as a difference between the results in Fallbrook’s first two games and in the victory. “We looked up before we passed,...

The 3-year-old filly stabled at the San Luis Rey Downs Training Center won the fifth race Sept. 7. “It’s always good to start a meet like that,” said Edward Freeman, who is both the trainer and owner of Live the Forth. “It takes a lot of pressure off, particularly with your own horse.” Live the Forth had been Freeman’s horse for about a month prior to the Fairplex race. She ran in an Aug. 5 claiming race at the Santa Rosa fair meet, and Freeman cla...

That could be because many people are unaware of the various ways they can put pumpkins to good use. Pumpkins are gourds and members of the squash family and have been grown and used for t... This year the Warriors won their first match in their third competition. The Warriors’ pre-league record is of little concern to coach Dave Ramirez, who not only schedules as competitive an opposition as possible to prepare his players but also places an emphasis on providing new players with experience and determining opt...
