    Updated Sep 22, 2006

“Don’t go to the end, think of the path,” was the advice from Jose Aponte, San Diego County’s Library Director. Aponte joined Friends of the Fallbrook Library (FFL) on Tuesday to discuss the progress of a new local facility. FFL has already raised $1.8 million for this new home, which Aponte believes will benefit them in their efforts to have the county construct it. “Your core team is so committe... Full story

  • Rainbow water employees reject 'last, best offer'

    Updated Sep 22, 2006

Approximately 95 percent of the employees in the two unions of Rainbow Municipal Water District (RMWD) are actively seeking new jobs, agreed members of the Employee Bargaining Units (EBU). Unanimously, they rejected RMWD’s “last, best offer” and sent a declaration of impasse for both unions, the Rainbow Employees Association and the Rainbow Association of Supervisor and Confidential Employees, on August 29. There were three “‘impasse issues’” cited in the letter: • “Cost of Living Adjustment ; and • Reduced pay and ben... Full story

  • It is amazing how many people believe things

    Updated Sep 22, 2006

With regard to Glen Holzhausen’s letter (9/7/06, “None are so blind as those who won’t see”), after commenting on the “Anti-Semitism” expression and Arab-Israel conflict, suddenly he offers up “for all the Bush-bashing Democrats” a list of major wars of the past century showing the number of American fatalities from each. We see that Democrat presidents happened to be in power during wars with the highest number of fatalities. Apparently, he’s attempting to make a correlation between Democratic presidents and higher war fa...

  • Thank you, Mr. Monday

    Updated Sep 22, 2006

I want to thank Mr. Monday for his answer to my question about his definition of religious bigotry. Mr. Monday wrote, “…any religious person who believes that their religion is true and all others are false is a bigot.” By not accepting the validity of the Christian religion, wouldn’t Mr. Monday, an apparent fundamental humanist, be a religious bigot? I agree with Mr. Monday that all religions are vulnerable to manipulation by evil people, but they are not true believers (unless their holy book advocates evil). There will alw...

  • Do your beliefs compel you to humiliate others?

    Updated Sep 22, 2006

Mark Wynen (‘Speak out against anti-family bills,’ 8/31/06) warns us about our state legislators’ desire to destroy families. “Lawmakers bent on promoting homosexuality in the public schools... to undermine the foundation of family values.” Since when is the very foundation of family values based on admonishing homosexuals? “SB 1437... goes beyond just the normalization of homosexuality – it would teach that people are born gay.” It should be obvious by now that tendencies toward homosexuality are largely due to genetic pred...

  • Fallbrook for the organically inclined

    Updated Sep 22, 2006

It has been quite the year of hard work with both of us working fulltime plus running a small organic farm, so I decided that my husband and I would take a day off and give ourselves a well deserved pamper. Where to go? We did not fancy going into San Diego and dealing with all that noise and traffic, so I planned a day in Fallbrook! And we are so happy with the way it turned out we just have to share with the intelligent and provocative group of readers of the Village News! We began by taking my disgusting “teacher’s” car t...

  • Our blood has been wasted

    Updated Sep 22, 2006

The attack of 9/11 was horrendous, no question about it. What has transpired since, however, has played directly into the hands of Al Queda. With a single blow they have completely transformed life in the US as we know it. They have won a big victory, and without the need for an encore. Billions of taxpayer dollars have gone to provide questionable systems and equipment all mandated by a new bureaucracy called “Homeland Security.” The initial attempt to capture/kill Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan was well founded. Pity it...

  • You've got to be kidding

    Updated Sep 22, 2006

After being out of the area for the past month visiting family, I returned to see a flyer listing the three candidates that the Fallbrook High School Teacher’s Union is endorsing for the board election this November. When I saw former FHS principal Marc Steffler’s name on that list, I thought, “You’ve got to be kidding!” This has to be a bad joke! While my daughter was in school under Mr. Steffler’s reign, I observed many incidences of what I felt was poor leadership, careless decision making and unprofessional behavior on...

  • Save Our School with your vote

    Updated Sep 22, 2006

I have been a resident of Fallbrook for 28 years. My three children attended Fallbrook High School from 1996 until 2005. During those nine years, we saw the quality of education decline and the entire high school experience deteriorate. The two incumbent board candidates who are up for re-election were on the school board during that time, so I decided to attend the forum last week to hear all candidates’ views. One thing is clear: it is time for a change. Neither incumbent, Jim Hutcherson nor Fran White, was able to a... Full story

  • The word illegal means illegal!

    Updated Sep 22, 2006

In 1986 Congress passed the Immigration Reform and Control Act, which granted amnesty to illegal aliens who had continually evaded law enforcement. This resulted in 2.8 million illegal aliens being admitted as legal immigrants to the United States. After Reagan had signed this into law, people thought that the immigration problem was “solved” and that everything could go back to normal. Wrong! All that Immigration Reform and Control Act did was tell the illegals that they would be rewarded for illegally crossing into our coun...
